{March is well under way}

February days are now gone and March has officially kicked in.   I finally purchased a new monthly focus board.  We ventured out for a day date which included a movie. I love our day dates. I will give my honest review about the movie for those interested. I wanted to see this movie as it was based on a true story. I did enjoy the movie but oh my, it was a tear jerker from the get go! It ended good but mercy! Let's just say that I am thankful that no one was sitting close enough to see my tear stained face. I am glad that I saw it but I am good for a while on sad movies, even if they do end good!   My oldest daughter, her husband and their son participated in the Spartan race which is a series of obstacle courses that challenge. They done so well. As you can see from the pictures it gets pretty muddy!  My three daughters participate each year in the Gate River Run. I love it that they do this together. They have so much support & encouragement from all the onlookers. I am just

{Wooden Box Project}

I am still working on the kitchen makeover. And let me just say....I am about to be SO OVER IT! LOL! Check list at this point:
Walls painted
Kitchen cabinets cleaned and polished
Base boards purchased, painted and down
Small bench makeover completed
One wall completed with bench decor
Curtains hung
Vintage Corner Hutch purchased and makeover in progress
Tops of Kitchen cabinets decorated completely-pictures to come
Hardware purchased and installed! (YAY)
Kitchen print I made and framed (will share soon)
500 other projects going on at same time! LOL!
Just teasing on that 500 number!

 So, to give me a break from KITCHEN I decided to work on my little wooden tote box that so many of you gave me ideas on what to use it for.

Remember this box? I paid 2$ for it.

 Grabbed my trusty palm sander and went to work on it.

After I sanded the box and wiped it down with a damp cloth I let it dry good.

Then I printed on the computer the words FRESH HERBS in the font that I liked.
My friend Pam from Everyday Living gave me the idea of putting fresh herbs in my wooden box.
If you have not visited Pam and Butch please go by. Take the time to read "Our Story, His Glory". You will be forever blessed.

I love fresh herbs. I love to plant them, smell them and cook with them. What better purpose for my wooden box.

Once I got the box painted I then took the printed words, "Fresh Herbs" and taped it across the front of the wooden box. With a pen I pressed down pretty hard as I traced each letter onto the box. With wood if you use this technique the indention is usually so visible that it makes it easy to trace.

Not perfect but it was beginning to look like I wanted it too. Instead of using paint with a brush I decided to use a Black Paint Pen. Oh this was so easy to do. Love paint pens for small projects such as these.

I found a small stencil I had in my craft box and I added a small design on each ends of the box.

 Prepared my jars with rocks, potting soil and a tad of Miracle-Gro along with parsley, mint and cilantro.

Now just look at my cute little wooden Herb Box. Yes, I am proud as punch! It will probably go in my kitchen too.

Do you cook with herbs?

I harvested dill over the weekend and popped several bags in the freezer.

If you really want your floral piece to smell nice add some fresh herbs. I popped in some dill, rosemary, cilantro and of course a pretty rose with a few branches off my red tips.

 Enjoyed these kiddos over the weekend.

And managed to get a new floral arrangement made to go over the top of my refrigerator.

SHH..................Don't tell anyone but I did sneak in a yard sale. LOL!

Praying that you all have a lovely week. I am working on my patience right now...which one are you working on?

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. Ooh Cindy, your wooden box redo turned out so pretty! Love the fresh herbs in the jars. Your new floral arrangement is going to be beautiful on your fridge, too. The verse from Galatians is my VERY FAVORITE!!! I have it right here on my desk, and wrote it just recently to one of my grandsons when he made his confirmation. I am working on JOY and writing down each day, in a journal, what brought me JOY. Enjoy your week, my friend! xx

  3. Cindy that is such a pretty wooden box, you can even put it on the table as a centerpiece. I really like you simple but very effective technique of the black pen. I hope you'll be finishing the kitchen soon. I've still got another three rooms to do. :)

  5. Good morning dear Cindy!
    You did such a fabulous job sanding and painting that cute little box. That's a neat idea to use mason jars instead of pots to hold your herbs. I have only grown basil and parsley...right now parsley is the only herb I have, and we use it a lot to cook with. :)
    I am working on self control...and loving bigger. :)

    Love,

  7. What a great idea for your tote! I love working with fresh herbs, too, but they don’t do very well for me inside. I’ve got a spot in a new garden off our grilling porch (near the kitchen) so I’ll be planting mine there. Your little tote is so cute, I may try this for cut herbs. Adding a little green in the kitchen makes it look so inviting! I know you are getting anxious to get your kitchen finished and it already looks gorgeous! Can’t wait for the full reveal! Wishing you a happy and wonderful week, dear friend!!

  10. I do use herbs .....when I cook!haha...which I do not do often. But I love to grow them. I used to have rosemary, basil and oregano in pots on my deck so I could just run my hands over them to smell them. I don't seem to have a lot of luck with herbs but I am going to shoot for putting some in the garden this yr. I love your box. That find turned out great with some paint and love. Nice job.

    What a great idea to use the wooden box for your herb plants. I must admit that I'm not much of a gardener. I had onions and mint growing in my tiny garden, but have never tried to actually harvest them. HA!

  20. Awesome herb box make over!! Some of you ladies just amaze me with your projects!
    I love cooking with herbs, but trying to grow them here is a waste of time.
    I do buy fresh at the store though.
    Rosemary and basil are my two favorites.
    Hang in there, soon your kitchen will be completed and you will be singing for joy.
    Our two month big remodel is completed and there were times I was wondering why we did it, but wow is it ever nice, well worth it. Hard work, but worth it all.
    Your flower arrangement is gorgeous.

  21. You did an awesome job on the herb box...so planting in glass jars limits the drainage...how do you keep the herb roots from too much water ? It is such a darling idea and sooo cute.

    1. Thanks BJ. I am struggling with the drainage. I over watered one time and had to let them sit outside to get sun to dry up. It's a trail and error with the drainage. I might wind up putting faux ones in the jars.

  22. Oh, I need you to come stay with me for a few months so you can help me get my projects done! I love what you did with your tote. I have a HUGE wooden tote that's too big for anyplace in my home. Maybe I should use outdoor paint and fill it with pots of herbs on the patio hear my kitchen. You always inspire me. Oh, yes, we have millions of yard sales so you need to bring a BIG trailer when you come! LOL

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a yard

{Another Fun Filled Weekend}

I hope you all are doing well. I am trying to wind down for the night and thought I would try and get a post out. Girls, by this time I am in my fat clothes and recliner smashing that remote control!   Marty and I kicked off our weekend by having a little fun food as I call it,  "charcuterie" style out by the pond. Of course I always fix more than we need or eat but it sure was good.  Two of our granddaughters had dance recitals over the weekend so we got to watch them perform and oh my! They were just the cutest things ever.  We were blessed to be able to see them perform. Then we celebrated a birthday for this sweet grandgirl! She was excited about being double digits . And besides all the fun from the weekend I was able to see some of my pretties in bloom.  Now to enjoy a cup of coffee.... I hope that you all have a wonderful, blessed week.  Hugs and blessings, Cindy

{Happy 46th Wedding Anniversary To Us}

  Happy October everyone! I wanted to pop in today and share a few pictures. Marty and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary on September 23.  Oh it seems so long ago that we said "I Do". We started dating when I was 16. Married at 18 and began a family at 20. Needless to say we have surely grown up together. Praise the Lord that we are growing "Older" together.  We decided since it had been about 8-9 years since we had been to Savannah, Ga. that we would take a weekend there and just enjoy a scenic luncheon cruise.  We enjoyed walking River street and sightseeing, shopping and eating of course! It was a nice get away and perfect for us as we are simply two imperfect people that fit perfectly together.  I did spot Santa while in Savannah though! YES, I love Christmas so I had to stop at several Christmas shops! We've had outings that have kept us quite busy and we have surely been blessed to be able to attend our grands functions and our little outings toget
