{March is well under way}

February days are now gone and March has officially kicked in.   I finally purchased a new monthly focus board.  We ventured out for a day date which included a movie. I love our day dates. I will give my honest review about the movie for those interested. I wanted to see this movie as it was based on a true story. I did enjoy the movie but oh my, it was a tear jerker from the get go! It ended good but mercy! Let's just say that I am thankful that no one was sitting close enough to see my tear stained face. I am glad that I saw it but I am good for a while on sad movies, even if they do end good!   My oldest daughter, her husband and their son participated in the Spartan race which is a series of obstacle courses that challenge. They done so well. As you can see from the pictures it gets pretty muddy!  My three daughters participate each year in the Gate River Run. I love it that they do this together. They have so much support & encouragement from all the onlookers. I am just

{Kitchen Makeover Is Moving Along}

Before we go to the kitchen I wanted to show you my newest addition to my laundry room.

We have a cute place in our town called "Deerly Blessed" and I just love to browse in there. I spotted this cute washboard and knew it would be perfect for my laundry room.

Okay, so I told you last week that I had made a little mistake on my cabinets that caused me to LIKE them right? As I shared, our cabinets are 25 years old and we had the cabinets custom built, solid oak. I thought about re-staining and I thought about painting them. Decided to give them a good old fashion elbow scrubbing! OH MY! That turned in to more of a job that I thought. Marty had brought something home for me to clean them with and I used it. It seemed to dull them up worse than they already were. Granny used to use Murphy's oil and Old English polish in which now they make different kinds for every type of wood possible. So, I bought some Murphy's oil that is also good for wood floors and I cleaned those cabinets good. TWO round of cleaning!

The walls had been washed and we had covered the holes in the walls with the Spackle and the painters tape was up at this point. As you can see this is what the cabinets looked like before I cleaned them. Not a very good picture but it gives you an idea of how dull they were. My cabinets are in good shape but oh so dull.

 I had bought Old English polish. Well, they make it for light and dark wood. I thought I bought the one for light wood. Needless to say I bought the one for dark wood. I decided I would try it in a small spot that no one would see if it looked bad. I LOVED IT! The cabinet on the left was the original color. The one on the right is the color I achieved by purchasing the wrong English Polish. After two coats of that and then a good buffing I loved how they turned out! All the deep wood colors popped. After two days of cleaning, waxing, buffing, polishing and buffing again I was happy. My BACK wasn't though!

 I chose to go with a Light French Gray for my kitchen. LOVE the color. I love the Sherwin Williams paint. The awesome thing was that this paint goes on thick and the guy said usually one coat will do it unless your walls are really dark to begin with or just flat out bad places in the wall. The paint went on beautifully and one coat was all that we had to paint!   HALLELUJAH!

Old paint color on left and new paint color on right. I can't believe how much lighter my kitchen already looks.

YEP, organization of pantry will be on my list soon! All trim work has been painted. We chose designer white for the trim in whichI had some left over from a previous painting project. And wouldn't you know that I had just enough to finish several projects we worked on.

Base board and pantry door has been purchased. Next will be to install the baseboard and pantry door and then the next thing on my list will be hardware. And then lighting, curtains, recovering my bench, and good grief, my list is long.
I'm going to hush before I overwhelm myself!

One day at a time Sweet Jesus

 You gotta have a little fun though and it didn't take me long to say "YES, I would love to go shopping and out to eat with you girls". LOL! I had a lovely day with these gals as we enjoyed a nice lunch at Mellow Mushroom and we shopped at some antique shops. I REFRAINED from buying any more dishes! I will admit that I carried those darling snack plates around for 30 minutes and finally put them back! I did come home with a beautiful tray that I plan on doing a little makeover on.

We ended our day with a little ice cream. That actually made me feel better about not purchasing those snack plates!

Finished up after Sunday dinner with a little fishing in the back yard, pop sickles and some good fellowship with the family.

Glad you gals are coming along with me for my makeover.

GOD IS GOOD and He is GOOD all the time.

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. Your decorative washboard is charming, Cindy. Your cupboards also look great! Sometimes mistakes produce the best outcomes. When my parents renovated their kitchen a couple of years ago, they also painted the walls gray--it's such a nice, neutral colour.

    Good for you for leaving the dishes behind! I'm on a tea buying hiatus and last weekend, I was thisclose to purchasing a new tea, but I managed to resist and bought chocolates instead...like how you bought a yummy hot fudge sundae in lieu of the dishes. Heh.

    1. I was going with white at first Margie but I fell in love with that light gray. I bought a sample first to make sure I liked it. Chocolates sounds good girl!

  2. I wish you'd done this makeover last spring and then I would have known about the French gray paint! We did the kitchen last spring. This spring we are painting the mudroom and pantry. I have to tell you though that I am going to give your Granny's cleaning tip on my cabinets soon. That is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing, not only your makeover with us, but also your shopping trip with the girls and family time on Sunday! xx

  3. Girl, you have been working hard too! Painting is not my cup of tea. Love that color you chose. We used a light gray in our guest bath and love it. So many colors compliment the grays. The transformation on the cabinets looks amazing. If I would just clean my cabinets it would be a transformation. LOL! Girl, I knew you would come home with something from the antique shop. Did you go to the one I like?

    1. Connie, I don't like painting either! Yeah girl, a good old elbow scrubbing does wonders! LOL! We didn't make it to my favorite place on Park Street due o time. But there's some neat little shops all through there and the Avondale area.

  4. I love the color! Great choice. And on the cabinets you also made a great choice. Mom has solid oak cabinets my brother made....YEARS ago. I keep them cleaned and oiled down for her. Thank goodness she don't have that many. My cabinets, builder grade, installed in the early 80s. I painted them, ivory color but my plans are to redo. I will be repainting, dark brown on bottom and a wheat color on the top! But....first I have to finish painting and laying floors upstairs. You wear me out with all you do. haha....keep on keeping on and have fun with it!

    1. LOL Pam! Sometimes I wear myself out just thinking. I am never bored I can assure you. Like I told someone recently, no, my solid oak cabinets might not be the UP-TO-DATE fancy ones but it's hard this day and time to even buy new cabinets that will hold up like good old solid oak. Thanks Pam for coming by today.

  5. It's so nice that your family gets together on Sundays for dinner. I love what you've done to the kitchen so far. That paint color is the perfect grey! The cabinets look brand new. I use Old English around the house and love it. Looks like a fun shopping, lunch and dessert day with the girls. The washboard looks great in your laundry room!

Oh we love our Sunday family dinners. It's just the norm for us and always has been. As my friend Kitty reminded me recently....my kitchen is the heart of my home.

  9. I love the way the kitchen is coming along. What a great mistake you made on your cabinets. I have used the dark Old English for years and years - it's what my dear mother used on our piano that now sits in my living room. The wall color is perfect and I can't wait to see what you still plan to do. You fished in your backyard? Really? Oh, my - my sweetheart would think he was in Heaven if he could do that.

I actually have an old one that I bought when we had our cabin in VA...still packed up in a box sitting in the garage when we sold it and I kept what I knew I wanted in the future. I will put mine up in my future laundry room in the new house. You picked a GREAT color for your kitchen...I just love it. Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a yard

{Another Fun Filled Weekend}

I hope you all are doing well. I am trying to wind down for the night and thought I would try and get a post out. Girls, by this time I am in my fat clothes and recliner smashing that remote control!   Marty and I kicked off our weekend by having a little fun food as I call it,  "charcuterie" style out by the pond. Of course I always fix more than we need or eat but it sure was good.  Two of our granddaughters had dance recitals over the weekend so we got to watch them perform and oh my! They were just the cutest things ever.  We were blessed to be able to see them perform. Then we celebrated a birthday for this sweet grandgirl! She was excited about being double digits . And besides all the fun from the weekend I was able to see some of my pretties in bloom.  Now to enjoy a cup of coffee.... I hope that you all have a wonderful, blessed week.  Hugs and blessings, Cindy

{Happy 46th Wedding Anniversary To Us}

  Happy October everyone! I wanted to pop in today and share a few pictures. Marty and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary on September 23.  Oh it seems so long ago that we said "I Do". We started dating when I was 16. Married at 18 and began a family at 20. Needless to say we have surely grown up together. Praise the Lord that we are growing "Older" together.  We decided since it had been about 8-9 years since we had been to Savannah, Ga. that we would take a weekend there and just enjoy a scenic luncheon cruise.  We enjoyed walking River street and sightseeing, shopping and eating of course! It was a nice get away and perfect for us as we are simply two imperfect people that fit perfectly together.  I did spot Santa while in Savannah though! YES, I love Christmas so I had to stop at several Christmas shops! We've had outings that have kept us quite busy and we have surely been blessed to be able to attend our grands functions and our little outings toget
