{March is well under way}

February days are now gone and March has officially kicked in.   I finally purchased a new monthly focus board.  We ventured out for a day date which included a movie. I love our day dates. I will give my honest review about the movie for those interested. I wanted to see this movie as it was based on a true story. I did enjoy the movie but oh my, it was a tear jerker from the get go! It ended good but mercy! Let's just say that I am thankful that no one was sitting close enough to see my tear stained face. I am glad that I saw it but I am good for a while on sad movies, even if they do end good!   My oldest daughter, her husband and their son participated in the Spartan race which is a series of obstacle courses that challenge. They done so well. As you can see from the pictures it gets pretty muddy!  My three daughters participate each year in the Gate River Run. I love it that they do this together. They have so much support & encouragement from all the onlookers. I am just

{This and That and a WHOLE lot of CABBAGE}

My "Little Room" as we call it is really starting to take on the look I have envisioned.

YES, I can survive in the room now!

Celestina gave me that beautiful cup and saucer and I'm still enjoying the tea from my friend Debbie Ray.

Found this cute vintage clock and spray painted it the color I wanted. Added a little doily and a tea cup that my Motherinlove had given me and I just love it.

Since I chose to accent with shades of red this beautiful hat box that Celestina painted for me was perfect filled with roses.

I had picked up this material as I thought at first I would make my curtains. Well, I actually picked up several different patterns and colors but I kept going back to this print with these colors. They went so well in my new room. So, I decided to not make the curtains, I actually bought curtains and I will show them to you later but I did have a chair that I wanted to cover and this would be my pattern and colors.

I've had this old chair for a long time and of course when I bought it at a yard sale for $5 I had all intentions of painting it and covering the seat. NEVER HAPPENED!

I loved the way the back of chair was designed.

So we got busy cleaning it up, sanding it a bit and painting it.

BLACK makes everything look sharp doesn't it?

Then we got busy covering the seat.

And I love the transformation!

By this time I was ready to enjoy a diet coke sitting on my cute mug rug that my friend Vicky made for me. Oh yes, the colors go great!

Then we celebrated my daughter Kristy's birthday with a good old fish fry! Don't know though what I like the best...the hush puppies or the cheese grits! Fish was yummy too.

For her cake I decided to make cookie dough brownies.

Topped with chocolate frosting, dark and white chocolate morsels.

Good grief, I guarantee you there's 500 calories per bite! LOL!

Then to end our day of fun we harvested a cabbage! My granddaughter Mallory participated with her school in a Bonnie Plant cabbage competition. Cabbage has to be weighed with the leaves on. A picture taken of the child with cabbage and of course all information filled out on a form to submit.  You can go online and read all about it. http://bonniecabbageprogram.com/
 However, Nana and Papa, that would be me and my man.....planted her cabbage at our home and for 9 weeks we so tenderly cared for this thing! She was so proud too.

And y'all know I had to plant some pretties by it along with her little garden sign!

I had heard that a local feed store would weigh the cabbage for you so I called them to see how they had done the weighing of the cabbage. Once you dug up the cabbage then all the dirt possible needed to be shaken off before weighing. The weight counted with leaves but for fun the cabbage could be weighed as well with no leaves to see how much the head only weighed.  So, out came the John Deere scales which went up to 22 lbs so I knew we had the cabbage covered.

And the result was 12.25 lbs!

With every single leaf picked away that was not eatable the head of the cabbage weighed 6.25 lbs.

Yes, our girl was quiet proud.
So was Nana and Papa!

Cabbage anyone????? Let's see, cold slaw, stewed cabbage, fried cabbage, sauteed cabbage, cabbage soup, grilled cabbage and well...cabbage!

After 9 weeks I felt I had given birth to a cabbage! What we don't do for the grands.
See here...I am glad we got to dig this thing up finally. We have babied that thing, fought the worms, picked bad leaves off, watered it more than the well holds, (lol) fertilized it with a kiss and laid hands on it and prayed over it to simply MAKE IT cause it belonged to grandchild! I would have NEVER done all that for me no cabbage! LOL!

Yep, I've had a pretty productive weekend I should say.

I'll leave you with this today my friends,

In making others happy we will be happy too, for the happiness you give away returns to shine on you.

"Make thy face shine upon thy servant, and teach me thy statutes. Psalm 119:135

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. Hi Cindy! Your daughter is gorgeous, and the cake is too :)
    That cabbage is AMAZING! I don't think I could have lifted it, 12 pounds?? Holy cow, that is one big vegetable. The chair you repainted and recovered is striking, so different from the chair you had. I wonder what the seller would think if he could see what you did with it?
    Happy Monday!

    1. Connie, I sent you an email earlier...be sure to check it today. Yes, I love how the chair turned out. It really goes well in my room. Well, it was a Nana and Papa team effort on the cabbage. The grandgirl would call or have her mama text us to see how her cabbage was doing and of course when eating Sunday dinners would always go out and look at it. She was so proud. I am proud it's dug up and survived! LOL!

Now we make a lot of fermented vegetables with it. I'm a little envious, though, as it's been in the 40's here...no planting yet! ugh. I need to move. ...I love your chair now. Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a yard

{Another Fun Filled Weekend}

I hope you all are doing well. I am trying to wind down for the night and thought I would try and get a post out. Girls, by this time I am in my fat clothes and recliner smashing that remote control!   Marty and I kicked off our weekend by having a little fun food as I call it,  "charcuterie" style out by the pond. Of course I always fix more than we need or eat but it sure was good.  Two of our granddaughters had dance recitals over the weekend so we got to watch them perform and oh my! They were just the cutest things ever.  We were blessed to be able to see them perform. Then we celebrated a birthday for this sweet grandgirl! She was excited about being double digits . And besides all the fun from the weekend I was able to see some of my pretties in bloom.  Now to enjoy a cup of coffee.... I hope that you all have a wonderful, blessed week.  Hugs and blessings, Cindy

{Happy 46th Wedding Anniversary To Us}

  Happy October everyone! I wanted to pop in today and share a few pictures. Marty and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary on September 23.  Oh it seems so long ago that we said "I Do". We started dating when I was 16. Married at 18 and began a family at 20. Needless to say we have surely grown up together. Praise the Lord that we are growing "Older" together.  We decided since it had been about 8-9 years since we had been to Savannah, Ga. that we would take a weekend there and just enjoy a scenic luncheon cruise.  We enjoyed walking River street and sightseeing, shopping and eating of course! It was a nice get away and perfect for us as we are simply two imperfect people that fit perfectly together.  I did spot Santa while in Savannah though! YES, I love Christmas so I had to stop at several Christmas shops! We've had outings that have kept us quite busy and we have surely been blessed to be able to attend our grands functions and our little outings toget
