Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too. Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway. We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20. We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...
Yes, we went to the beach again for a weekend and I know I have told y'all this before but it is truly my "Happy Place". I could so be a BEACH BUM! After our last beach trip a few weeks ago several of you asked me these questions so I will answer them for you. For those that sent me a personal email on beach "tips"I replied to you in an email.
Q: How can I sit in that sun all day at the beach?
A: I carry a tent. I sit a while in the sun and then I sit a while under the tent.
Q: Do you use lots of protection on your skin?
A: Yes. I use a mixture of tanning lotions, oils and sunblocks for my face, lips and my body. Wind burn can be bad too so whether I am in sun or under a tent I keep coverage on. And, when I feel I have had enough sun then a wrap up or tee goes on. I always have a hat and sunglasses on. I will sit under the tent without a hat. I try to be careful about sun exposure for sure. I always use a good moisturizer after sun exposure. I have been blessed with the skin tone that tans more than it burns so that has been a huge plus for me but even with that...skin cancer ain't no joke. I am sure I am not careful enough but I sure try to be protected and use common sense. You must be careful even if you are exposed to a tanning bed. I know women that have suffered from skin cancer due to overexposure in the sun and the tanning bed.
Q: Do you swim in the ocean?
A: No! When I get hot I go just far enough out to get wet and to cool off. I ain't much about going up into the sharks house I can tell ya! I am not your surf boarding, boogie boarding, tube riding kind of girl. GIVE ME MY BOOK and I am good to go. But, I will play a bit in the water if the grands wants me too! LOL!
Q: Do you like walking on the beach?
A: Yes. I love to walk on the beach and when there with the grands, we love to pick up the prettiest sea shells we can find. When it's Marty and I, we like to walk in the afternoon when most people are clearing off of the beach. And of course....I wanna walk barefoot! YES, sand on those toes!
Q: Do you pack your lunch when you stay all day or just snacks?
A: A little of both really. We carry a cooler full of Bottled Water, Gatorade, and a couple of soda's for me. We carry another cooler of fresh fruit, peanuts, crackers, pretzels, cheese sticks and etc. I can assure you I don't go hungry. LOL! I'm the "pre-pack queen". Everything is washed, cut up or whatever is needed for preparation and prepacked in baggies. I like convenience. When the whole family is with us we all carry lots of different things and share. When it's just Marty and I, well, we are low maintenance and it really doesn't take too much for us. I am a snacker when I am on the beach. For me, my favorite is a bottle of water, some fresh fruit, string cheese and peanuts.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the beach?
A: Read. I love to read and can read a thick book in no time flat if it's a good one. Marty, well, no on the reading but he sure will take a little snooze. Oh, and people watch. Hee-hee
And, I have to share this with y'all just so you know that I have nothing against playing in the water but you might need a laugh so here ya go. Last summer my daughter's talked me into getting on a tube and catching a wave to ride back to shore. Well, that just seemed like lots of work to me but I finally gave in. The first few times around was fun I must admit. I was getting the hang of it.Why wouldn't I though because the girls pulled me out to sea and got me going good when that one wave that was awesome came through. I did very little work so it was fun! So, I decided that day after about three times of riding the waves to do it one more time. The last time riding the waves became an EYE OPENER! Well, for the man that was standing on shore watching me come in anyway.....I had on a strapless bathing suit and well....can you guess what happened? YEP, that wave caught me just right and down went my top! He was dramatized I am sure! Guess who I saw the very next day at the beach? YUP, the same man! We made eye contact. I think he struggled at first to recognize me since I had my top on though........................... Not sure if he came back for more laughs or if he was trying to wake up from a nightmare but we are still laughing today at the look on that poor guys face! I am quite sure he has never been the same since. I hope the poor thing didn't have nightmares. So...what was the lesson for me?
We did take a little time on our way home from this beach trip to stop by Academy. Marty bought a new boogie board so he's ready for the next beach trip. He thinks he is going to out do the grands! We laughed on the way home at our differences of choice items to buy. He gets a boogie board to play with in the water. I get a small, lightweight, folding table to sit by my beach chair for my convenience. LOL!
Me and three of the grandgirls also had a fun day recently.
I had a large 12 inch round cake frozen in the freezer so what better time to make a fun dessert than with the grands!
And of course they loved it! Especially that baby licking the beater!
What to do with leftover cake after I cut out my little cakes? Crumble it up, slap it back in the freezer and save it to make a trifle.
They had a little fun too with Papa. Country gals for sure!
I hope that you have a great week and as Dolly Pardon would sing...I hope "that life treats you kind". Remember to be thankful for your blessings....Blessings of some kind come every single day. Beginning with the first breath you take.
And if you haven't smiled today then maybe this adorable picture of my little granddaughter Adalynn will make you smile....
Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Lipstick and blush is indeed a girls best friend, smiles. And thank you for the giggles over the top...girl, I have a story to tell you, lol.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos, smiles
Lol! I can’t wait sit to hear your story Linda ! 😂 we sure had some over my reveal .
DeleteLady, I think you would live at the beach wouldn't you? We carried the grands last Saturday and it was so crowded by the time we got there which wasn't till noon. We carry a tent too. People watching is the most fun cause you know someone is watching us too. (laughs) Love the pictures and especially of the grandchildren. So much fun your family has Cindy.
ReplyDeleteConnie Royals
LOL Connie! I would if my husband, children and grands would go! Yep, you know if we are watching them they are watching us. LOL! We've surely seen some sights lately. Woman dancing on the beach to couples fighting to little boys running bottomless! Ha! I am quite sure we are boring compared to most!
DeleteCindy, you are definitely a beach girl! I did get quite a chuckle over the swimsuit malfunction. Have a wonderful week making lots of memories!
ReplyDeleteYep, I could be a beach girl quick!
DeleteI'm glad that you and Marty can have some beach fun, Cindy! That was a funny story you told about the strapless swimsuit. I guess you surely learned your lesson!! People watching is the best!! Boogie boards are such fun! I love those sweet grand girls and their cooking time with you. enjoy your week, my friend! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you kitty . You and Marty could be good beach board buddies 😂 I’d have you a bottled water ready for y’all when you got back😂 we did enjoy our cake time . That leftover icing is always the best 😊
DeleteLove your beach Q&A! I never wander too far in either. I don't want to be shark bait! I always have to have an umbrella to get out of the sun and the beach is the perfect place to read! Love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteLove reading on the beach . Favorite place due orace and quite . Well, except when I’m people watching 😂
DeleteI'm not a good swimmer so I would definitely stay close to land.
ReplyDeleteYour tube story made me laugh. I've always worn bathing suits with straps, but sometimes I worry about things shifting or falling off. HA!
😂😂😂 Margie it really was embarrassing at first but then we laughed so hard later . We made fun memories st my expense . And I’m not a good swimmer either so the hill works for me .
DeleteYour ride on the wave was so funny, I was laughing out loud. Sorry, I know you must have been 'aghast.' lol Would never think of you as a beach bum, but a beach beauty.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had s good laugh miss Mary . After the embarrassment was over i laughed too ! Oh miss Mary ithis country girl could so easy live close to the beach . But it sure a nice place to visit .
DeleteOh I had a good chuckle at your story!! You take everything in your stride which is amazing! I like your idea of making a big cake into little ones. So cute. And who doesn;t like trifle??
ReplyDeleteThanks sweet lady . We need to learn to take. Things in stride for sure . It’s just life , right ? Yes the one big cakes made quite a few smaller cakes . So i shared with several family and friends . Worked out great ,
DeleteI loved your idea for a fun time with the grandgirls and having a dessert when the fun was over! Well, eating would be the fun part for me. :) Do take care! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you lady . Those kids loved the dessert .
DeleteAnd that, my friend, is one reason I do not wear a strapless....ANYTHING...LOL! Oh my...I don't know if what actually happened was funnier than picturing you telling the story! So glad you were able to enjoy the beach again so soon. I am hoping to get there before I have my surgery but if not, maybe during my recovery sometime. And what a cute idea for those little cakes! I can tell they were enjoyed immensely...but maybe not quite as much as that redneck sledding...my boys are very familiar with that activity! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Girl, we still laugh about that incident last summer. After your surgery and you are mending, that might be a good time for you to relax a little on the beach friend. Hey, go before your surgery and again after surgery! LOL! YES, our babies love red neck sledding!
DeleteLOL Cindy you made my day about the tubing incident!!! The Man came back to see if you might wear the same bathing suit and give him another look I am sure!!!! Too funny. Love seeing your sweet grand girls having fun with Grandpa and Grandma. They really make life sweet. Have a great new week. Big Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteIt was quite funny---after I was through being embarrassed! LOL! Those kids are truly the icing on any cake!
DeleteCute! Cute! Cute!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were on the beach, close to you, you'd be the one I'd be "people watching", because you two sound so fun!
I'd be giggling and even laughing (your story about your bathing suit) with you. Actually, that story really makes a memory for ALL involved.
Glad you had the time to stick your toes into the sand, again.
LOL! Christine, I bet it surely made memories for that guy to laugh about too! So at least we both got a good laugh even if it was at my expense. One thing is for sure...life is too short not to laugh. Ha!
DeleteThat lost shot of Adalynn. Oh my goodness. I'm the same way about the beach. I love to sit and read but I people watch too! I don't swim much but like to cool off and run back to my chair. We always use umbrellas and cover up a lot. I love your funny story!! That guy and seeing him the next day was the best! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHeather, my 11 year old grandgirl got a new phone to take with her to Tallahassee (FSU) ball camp and she has the best little camera on that phone. So she has been making pictures of the cousins and snapped that one of Adalynn. I thought it was the cutest ever.
DeleteOh my goodness, Cindy! That poor man!! And you! I’m surprised you didn’t end up with a whole mouthful of water! Well let that be a lesson to you! Those grands looked like the enjoyed your dessert afternoon. The end results looked delicious! Happy week! Z
ReplyDeleteThat poor man was right Zenda! LOL!
DeleteWhat a neat idea to cut the cake into smaller cakes and let them decorate them! Those girls look like they were having a ball being pulled by Papa! You all enrich their lives and are what all grandparents should be like. God bless you and your family, sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet Cheryl.
DeleteWhat a fun packed outing. The beach is relaxing with the crashing of the waves. Carrying a tent is wonderful. That sun can be damaging. The snacks sound perfect. There is something about eating outdoors. Your grands are so lucky to have a sweet nana to spoil them. Blessings and hugs
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Yes, there is something about eating outdoors. Everything taste better and for some odd reason all I want to do is snack! LOL!
DeleteBeautiful pictures and very nice moments. Have a happy day. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra.
DeleteSounds like my kind of day at the beach. Well, all except the flashing. 🤦🏻♀️
ReplyDeleteStopping in to say hello!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading all about your beach days and that incident about your top...Oh my goodness!
Your photos of your precious grandbabies are always a joy to see.:-)
Thank you for sharing this enjoyable posting, dear friend.
