{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

{Sweet Summertime}

Sweet summertime brings me a fresh tomato sandwich straight from my little garden. Lordy mercy, I do love me a mater sandwich. I grow my tomatoes in buckets and I only planted 6 plants this year and one did not yield a thing. But, so far, the other five is surely bringing me some yummy to my tummy.

Speaking of sweet summertime...oh this watermelon was my 2nd one for the summer as of today. So, so sweet and of course these girls make that melon even sweeter.

Our sweet Kyleigh wanted to have a little purple in her hair for our July beach trip so she now has purple hair. Yes, she is going to be my grand that might just want a different color hair every season. LOL! It will wash out in about 6 weeks but she sure loves it. I told her to hold on cause Nana was getting a little purple, blue or pink streaks in my hair for the beach trip. She is so excited and of course told me exactly where to streak it at!  But.....mine will be chalk paint that washes out over night. LOL! YEP, girls just wanna have fun.

Marty and I are still enjoying our Friday late afternoon "fun foods". I do not like to eat heavy after 4 pm if I can help it so this kind of stuff is right up my alley.

My daughter usually sends me a picture every Sunday morning of the girls ready for Sunday school and church. They enjoy church and that makes this Nana's heart leap with joy.

So, I ventured out of my comfort zone and decided to try some avocado toast. I have NEVER liked avocado but several of my friends kept telling me that avocado toast was the best. I looked up several different ways to spice it up a bit. But....just in case I decided I did not like it I needed plan b. Which for me is peanut butter toast. So, my take on this avocado creation.....salt, pepper, seasoning salt, fresh mashed avocado and diced turkey was "it's okay, but nothing I would write home about".   If you have a favorite way of making avocado toast do share and I might try it again. Taste buds sure change as we age so who knows...this woman that absolutely disliked roasted oysters at one time LOVES them now!

My youngest daughter and I done a little shopping recently and she spotted this adorable utensil holder and so it came home with me. But, It was a reminder with the words that ring so very true.....

The word that got my attention was....

As I begin a brand new week I am praying for this verse to be upon my heart and that I practice the truth of this wonderful verse. I hope that you all have a wonderful week and that you too will ponder God's precious truth of this verse as you begin your new week.

Hugs and blessings to you all.

  1. What a wonderful idea your daughter has, sending you pictures of the grand-girls all ready for church.
    I find avocados too bland and can't see why others like them so much. Our tastebuds are all different :)

    1. I wish I liked avocados better. I have tried gucamaloe and did not like that. Maybe I am just not going to be an avocado fan! LOL!

  2. Avocado: it's pretty bland to my taste buds, but I like the texture of it, and of course, guacamole is great with chips or on tacos, etc. Kudos to you for trying it!

    The reminder to do all things to the glory of God is so good. That is my prayer, too.

  3. Summer sure is sweet. I love a tomato sandwich too! That new hair color is just adorable on your grand!! The little ones in their Sunday school dresses is such a sweet idea. I love chopped tomato on my avocado toast. I season the avocado with salt and pepper first. Everything but the bagel seasoning on the tomatoes is so good too. I've been known to make a whole salad on top of the avocado too--greens, scallions, carrots, peppers, tomatoes...all finely chopped. Some people do a fried egg on top too. I just had the best avocado toast of my life, they grilled the sourdough bread, used big chunks of avocado and seasoned with olive oil, salt & pepper and micro greens on top. Divine!

  6. I am not one to love avocados alone but I do love them in guacamole. I think it is what you add to them that make them tasty. I know they are very healthy for you. Good luck with all the suggestions. Some of them sound pretty good. Happy Monday. Have a great week.

  8. I like avocado with my tacos! Not had it on toast before and actually not thought about adding peanut butter with it. Interesting. On the other hand, a good tater sandwich with mayo, salt and pepper is great. I started adding basil to mine, I love it. Putting it on fresh bread is GREAT. My fave fruit, WATERMELON....love it. Had my first on last week. Needing another one today, yet time to head for another one. YUM....

  10. Your tomato sandwich reminds me of one of my all-time favorite dishes - tomato pie. I discovered it at a BBQ place near where we used to live, and oh, my goodness. There is nothing like it. I finally got their recipe, which is a treasure. When I don't have time to make the full-blown recipe, I make it like this - two slices of bread, slather with mayo, heavily pepper, slices of tomatoes on top of that, then cover with shredded cheddar cheese. Put under broiler for about 4 to 5 minutes, and enjoy! It is not as good as the full recipe, but it comes very close and satisfies my craving, in a pinch. One of the guys in our bluegrass band does a bang-up job singing "Homegrown Tomatoes." He just sang it when we got together Saturday. It's true there ain't nothin' in this world like love and homegrown t'maters! Sending hugs to you, sweet friend.

  12. Yep, I'm not an avocado fan either. There are a whole lot of other delicious things to put on your morning toast! Love the purple hair! I'm ready to head back to my hair dresser. Michelle has done a great job dying it during the pandemic but I think she's ready to let the professional handle it again. I'm looking to just hide the gray, maybe a regular tone of brown, though., and a little natural highlight. I hope you share the picture of your new 'highlights!' I am so jealous of your ripe tomatoes! Ours aren't usually ready until the middle or end of July. They sure are worth waiting for, though. Enjoy your week, dear Cindy! Zenda

    1. I am thinking about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich today. LOL! Your hair always looks nice Zenda. Michelle has done a great job. It seems when the tomatoes just coming in that they ALL come in at once but these I have have staggered out just right for me. Got a few more to pick today.

  13. Loved your post as always! Your little girls are all so adorable and fun! Purple streaks in the hair sounds like fun. I've never tried anything like that...my husband might have a stroke if I walked out with them now! LOL. Better not try it. As for avocado, not my thing. I am a texture person, and that just kind of makes me not want to try it... But I LOVE peanut butter toast, but mine needs either some apple butter or grape jam on top...or sliced bananas! Enjoy your beach trip with the family! Sounds wonderful!

    1. We are looking forward to the family beach trip. I think that might be what it is about the avocado that I don't care for....the texture. Oh Pam, I don't like banana's either. The smell of them makes me sick. CRAZY I know. Hope your day is going well.

  14. Oh, I don't think I would care for Avacado toast either but it is sure popular and it was offered one morning at our B and B where we stayed for our anniversary celebration. My Grangirls love the pink, purple and such hair too. Me, not so much. :o)) Have a great week!

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
