{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

{Life of the Retired}

Hope this finds all my blogging friends having a great weekend. Marty and I had a date date yesterday. We love our day dates as we are home before dark! We might be telling our age now.....LOL!

We began our date at a local feed store...how romantic huh? Well, it is when you are getting the ground ready for potato planting. Of course we made a trip to Shooters, a hunter's dream store!

Then we went to Outback, Marty's favorite steak place and back home y'all before dark. A fire in the fireplace was calling my name. I love these kind of day dates. But you know? A friend of mine told me that sometimes it really doesn't matter where you go, that it's all about the change of scenery. While I agree I would add to that...What matters most is who you spend that time with.....

I spent some time with this sweet grand this week and she is such a joy. She has the best attitude and sweetest spirit ever.

I love her sign!

I made a pineapple cake drizzled with confectionary sugar icing for dinner today along with some sugar cookies. But our main course was chili and it was a good day for chili. It's cold in my neck of the woods. Us Floridians aren't used to all that you know!

My sister snaps these marquee signs of this church occasionally and sends them to me. This pretty much nails it don't you think? Don't think our way of NORMAL will ever return here on this earth.

Well, I am still trying to find some kind of balance to this thing called "retirement. Not sure when that might come about. For now, I am busy at home doing things I've never had time to do or that I chose not to do when I was off. I have helped out with one of the grands as some of my family was sick battling this awful virus. Praise the Lord they are on the way to recovery and much better as I type this. I am trying to find some kind of routine but right now it just seems that it's a day by day thing for me. Not sure what I want routine to look like yet. I am rambling as typing so overlook the RETIRED gal that is used to ROUTINE! LOL!
I do hope that you all have a great week and whether you are in a routine or not with "life" may your days be sweet to you and your health be good.
I will leave you with this that a friend posted. AMEN or OH ME! I am afraid I could say both!

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. Retirement is just a state of mind, lady! I've found you can be as busy or lazy as you like.. and sometimes you can be both in the same week! It took awhile for me to hit my stride but I found a lot of pleasure in volunteer work using some of the skills I learned in my work. You'll figure it out in time, God will lead you. Just enjoy the journey! And enjoy those day dates! J and I have found we like to go out during the day (once in awhile) but when the dark rolls in, we prefer to be back home, too. Thanks for sharing that article. It really does make you think about our perception of how we spend our time. Have a happy and warmer week! Think about us in Missouri. It sounds like we're the next to be hit with some snow. Hope it isn't anything like the northeast! Zenda

    1. Thank you Zenda. YES, enjoy the journey for sure. I read somewhere that you guys might get ton of snow! We've had some frosty mornings and we call it Florida snow. LOL!

  2. Hi Cindy, I am glad you are enjoying your retirement. Our days vary too. Doing things with the family still the main thing, especially when it comes to the grans. Glad your family is on the mend. Some of mine were sick after the holidays. Always happy to see the grands all at church. I heard it was cold in Florida. We get in the 30's at night, but up to 73 and sunny today! My Bible journaling group is going well and I posted some pictures on my blog. Have a great week!♥

  3. Oh, yes, the joys of retirement! "Day Dates" are the best. Us retired folks don't do much after dark unless we absolutely have to! LOL. And you get the best prices for the lunch menus at the restaurants... You will find your new routine eventually, but it's kind of fun to not have a routine and you can do things spontaneously whenever you feel like it. But it is good to keep a routine or you get lazy. These past couple of weeks we've been battling this old virus and so we have gotten kind of lazy. We try to do things like "normal" but our bodies have other ideas. LOL. But hopefully this too shall pass soon. We miss being with our church family and friends. The main thing is just enjoy these days of doing things with your hubby and kids/grandkids and being free to let God use you wherever He may lead. You may be surprised the places He will lead you now that you are "free" to go! Enjoy every minute!!!

  7. Cindy,
    I have not worked in over 3 years and I am still trying to find balance but it is easier now than in the beginning...At first, I didn't want a routine and found that I was getting nothing done and feeling awful because of it..I am a List Maker so i went back to my To Do Lists for the Day and for the week, creating a sort of routine and that has worked for me...I need a routine, a schedule and some sort of structure to my day...Joe just flies by the seat of his pants all day and is bored out of his everloving mind!! Thank Goodness he is now working part time because it does give him something to do...His view of retirement is totally different from mine and co vid has made an understanding of both not easy for us...I am perfectly content to stay home and can find a million things to do where he can not find one single thing to do and looks to me to keep him busy which is exhausting for me...There is a huge emotional adjustment to retirement that no one seems to talk about . I have read a lot of articles online about it and they helped....You will find your "routine" but it will take time....Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

Your pineapple cake looks fabulous. I sure could go for a slice if it right now. Enjoy your week, my friend. Blessings ❤️

  10. Ooh, I love blooming onions!

    A couple of co-workers recently announced that they'll be retiring April 1 (not an April Fool's joke). I'm thrilled for them...but also a little jealous. LOL.

    1. Marty loves them too. They used to do the petals and quit that. They were the perfect size to me. Not too much and not too little. He loves him some outback! Well congratulations to your co-workers. Another friend of mine just told me she was in retiring in June. She has been in the school system for over 30 years. She is ready she said.

  15. I believe God has you doing exacty what you are supposed to during this transition into retirement, sweet friend - enjoying life, being there for your sweet family, being available, going on day dates, etc. You are so beautiful, inside and out, and you are making such a positive difference in this cruel, dark world. I believe God will use you in this season even more than in your working season. Thank you for sharing your amazing life here with us on this blog. Every time you post, it is a true blessing. Sending love and hugs your way today!

  17. Oh, yes, day dates are definitely our favorite and yes, I guess that does "age" us. But, hey, it's okay! You will get your routine figured out shortly and I'm betting you will say, as many others, you don't know how you ever had time to work. Blessings!

  18. yep, we're aiming for a date day a week, even if it only means going for a drive on a frigid wintry day. so many restaurants are closed these days but it's still fun to be out and about.

    looks like retirement's fitting well for you guys!

  19. I think I remember telling you retirement is a BIG adjustment. I worked part time for 9 years after I retired...was mostly able to make my own schedule and that was nice. Now I have absolutely no routine. I keep thinking I might do better if I had one. I tend to just do whatever comes up. If you read my latest blog post you'll see what I've been up to recently...a BIG project!!! My husband is also retired but works 3 days a week until about 3:00...so we often do "day dates" to Lowes, Wal Mart, etc....LOL!!! I'm sure you'll figure this retirement thing out...most people (including me) find that you are often too busy to get bored....but on occasion when I do get bored I absolutely hate it. I'm a DOER...must have a project or "something" to do. I'm hyper that way!!! Blessings to you and yours...wish we lived closer because I think we could have some fun "retirement" times together:)

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
