{February Happenings}

  Well our February Florida weather is cool in the mornings, warm during the day and cool at night. Which to be honest, suits me! But, we can't have perfect weather that suits us all can we? This weather has had me in the baking mode though. I saved a few apples from our mountain trip and baked an apple bundt cake to freeze for a Sunday dinner sweet.  Decided to whip up a batch of Kitty's shortbread spritz cookies. They weren't as pretty as hers but oh they would melt in your mouth. Be sure to pop over to see her recipe.  https://www.kittyskozykitchen.com/2025/01/impossibly-easy-ham-and-swiss-pie-and.html#more I had some left over deer venison and decided to make a Venison and Penne Casserole. Was a hit with Marty and his dad. But, we love all things venison around her neck of the woods.  One day I had some broccoli that was going to go bad if not used so whipped up a little comfort soup. Broccoli and shedder cheese soup.  My oldest granddaughter Raygen bought h...

{Baby, It's Cold Outside}

 Well, when I say it's been cold in Florida then it's been cold! Mercy. I don't do extreme cold nor heat. Think I need to move to the Bahamas's or Hawaii! LOL!

Speaking of cold Marty and I went to the mountains for a little getaway and of course our favorite place to go is Blueridge, Ga. However, temps never got above freezing. We actually had 6 degree temps a few times. BRR........ We normally go mid to late February but this year for a late Celebration of ringing the bell Marty wanted to go in January. No planning for months, no wondering what we would do from day to day but simply a getaway to rest, relax and refresh our spirits. WHICH WE DID JUST THAT.

We surely didn't play in the snow long but did get a tad of play time in.

The cabin was still decorated with Christmas and that I truly loved as I love all things Christmas.

We stayed by the fire a lot which was so nice. The cabin had a fireplace inside and one outside on the partially closed porch with a firepit. We do have a fireplace at home that we enjoy but just the change of scenery was welcomed.

We done a few outings here and there in  downtown Blueridge, the outskirts of Blueridge and took several scenic drives. We drove over to Dahlonega one day and shopped a little. And who can go to Blueridge without going to Mercier Orchards? Not us so a trip for Apples and Apple butter was certainly on our list. If you are ever in Elijay, Ga or Blueridge Ga be sure to stop by Cantaberry's. Best tomato bisque I've ever had.

  And I do love me a CUP of coffee. LOL!

We had a wonderful lunch at 19 North in Dahlonega. As we sat there we looked out the window at the snow flurries. By the time we left and got to our vehicle it was snowing. Us Floridians are not used to such.

Meanwhile back home the temps got mighty cold and needless to say what they considered a wet small ice storm brewed. We came home a day earlier than we had planned too as we had gotten word that the wind along with ice had hit more of our trees. We are thankful they were not close to our home so no damage. Not what we wanted to come home too especially after taking such a hit from the last tornado. But, we were thankful for our time away. The Lord has purpose for all things and that I do know. We were thankful for our Hallmark cabin with a Hallmark view. It's not everyday that one can look out the large bay windows and watch nine deer play in the snow while we enjoyed a nice warm fire with a cup of hot chocolate.

However, there's NO PLACE LIKE HOME and NO PEOPLE like your family!

The damage done outside our home will be taken care of but the memories we made will last a lifetime.

I will close with this last paragraph. I read this and it touched my heart so much. We do make a difference! We do have PURPOSE!

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. Oh, I'm so happy you were able to get away to the mountains, and that you got to enjoy some real snow and winter for a few days! I know it had to be very cold there, but oh! So beautiful! Looks like you had a picture perfect place to stay too! Glad you made it back home safely, but sorry to hear about the ice /wind damage to your trees. I know it's hard to see our trees go. But better than your house, right? So thankful all is well. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am SO happy for you!!

  3. Hi Cindy, I am glad you had a nice get away. We heard about the snow in Florida. I wish we would get some snow where I live. But then it would be crazy. People can't even drive in the rain! Well, heavy rain as we are getting smaller amounts now. Enjoy the week and so glad to see you post again!

    1. Thanks Susan. Our area got mostly ice but oh the grands had so much fun making little icemen as they called it. However just one hour away from my home they got lots of snow. Marty and I were in snow all week in the mountains and I can honestly say, it's pretty to look at but sure would not want to deal with that daily. LOL!

  11. Looks like you traded Florida snow for some Georgia snow! Strange winter this year for northern Florida to get snow. I was fascinated seeing videos of Pensacola in blizzard conditions. I'm glad that you were able to experience it. It look like a pro in the photos!

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...

{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...
