It's a tad late to wish a Happy New Year but I sure hope that it's kicked off good for everyone. Ours kicked off with being so THANKFUL for what God has done and is doing. As I told my family as we were reminiscing over 2024, "There is a lot of 2024 I DO NOT WANT A RE-DO but the Lord has surely taught me so very much. I am truly thankful for each breath, each day, family and close friends. We had our three youngest grands for New Years Eve. We had a great time and the girls enjoyed a little fishing, bonfire with their great-grandfather and roasting marshmallows. Their great-grandfather will be 90 years old next month. As most of you know I do a monthly focus board and this makes my 3rd or 4th year. I've lost count. Only fitting that New Beginnings would be my focus for January. This has been so good for me as it sits on my kitchen counter so I can see it daily. Wonderful way to focus and quote God's Word daily. I felt up to hosting a lunch and movie day with ...
My daughter was talking about New Years Resolutions and her daughter who is 6 asked, "What does Resolutions mean? So my daughter explained to her the term "New Year Resolutions". Later on my 6 year old granddaughter said that she wanted to make a New Year RESELECTION! Not Resolution, but RES-ELECTION. (She couldn't remember the word Resolution.) She told her mom that she wanted her family to hold hands at the dinner table every time they prayed over their meal. Well of course you know that just melted this Nana's heart.....
There is always a lesson for us in everything if we would just really take the time to listen. I thought about the wording she used and the word ELECT jumped out all over me! Truthfully, that is exactly what a New Years Resolution is...TO ELECT to change, do different, to choose, to pick our or decide.
Though for many our New Years Resolutions...OUR ELECTED choices consist of better diet, exercise program, save more money, help the poor, and well, our list goes on and on. With all that being said, those are good things to ELECT to do or at least to become better in those areas. But what if.........We ELECT to become more Christ-like? More of Him and Less of Us?
That is my New Years RES-ELECTION....I want to CHOOSE to become more like Jesus and less of Cindy. That is my true heart's desire. What is your heart's desire for the new year?
Hugs and Blessings, Cindy

Great post today Cindy! LOVE the analogy given here. Connie Royals
ReplyDeletePriceless! Truly - out of the mouth of babes . . . I shall be meditating on this throughout the day. Making our elections - selections - choices - line up with His Will and Ways should be our resolution every day - not just good intentions to make "re-selections" each new year. Bless your little gal - I have one that calls me Nana, too.
ReplyDeleteJoy!

Love this post Cindy!! Reminds me of 1 Timothy 4:8 - For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. Resolving to start or stop doing a certain activity has no value unless we have the proper motivation for stopping or starting that activity. There must be power behind our RES-ELECTIONS (Does it honor God). Psalm 37:5-6 says, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” Johnna D.
ReplyDeleteThis is the sweetest thing...just to let you know your precious gdaughter has blessed me with her 'new' word. I will now make New Year Res-elections! Always electing to live for Christ and for His Glory! BTW, I also insist we hold hands for the Blessing, even when all 20+ of us are together.
ReplyDeleteAwesome analogies, my Friend! When I first saw it, I read it as RE-SELECTION. As in, we get to re-select a new attitude, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how precious!!! Just about anything a grand says is awesome!!! ;-) HOPE you have a great 2014, my friend!!

I LOVE it! Re-selection is something we need to do all through life. My heart's desire for this new year is to know Christ better - to be close enough to hear every word He whispers to me and to follow His direction in new ways. And my heart's desire right now is to know His desire for caring for my dear, little mother. There are many decisions that must be made soon. So, I 'hold hands' across the blog world with those who are praying for needs. And I believe for the answers!

this is thought provoking, cindy:) wishing you your best year yet!
ReplyDeleteGrandchildren are such blessing! The little ones can teach us so much. And that's just like your sweet spirit to be open to hearing her message. I hope you're keeping a book of these little things they say because I know I forget things I never thought I would and that's a real keeper.

Out of the mouth of babes is what came to mind. Such a sweet story and even better because her word helped you elect your mission for the new year. I chose a word and it is trust. I want to trust my Jesus completely this year to lead me in all things.
ReplyDeleteCut new header and look to your blog. I scrolled back and really enjoyed seeing all your family pics. Beautiful family
