Happy May! I wanted to pop in and share a few pictures from my month of April which seemed to fly by quickly. As I am trying to catch up with my blogging friends today I realized it had been a month since I last posted. My mercy! But, I am so busy doing this thing we call life here on earth and enjoying every moment that I can. With my immediate family of 14 there is never a dull moment y'all! We had three family birthdays in April. My SIL David, granddaughter Adalynn and oldest granddaughter Raygen. Our favorite grandson Conner (only grandson) carried his girl to the prom. We had to snap at least one picture with Mom and Nana! Two of my elementary school friends and I get together at least once every 4-5 weeks so we went to breakfast and then to Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. We always have so much fun. The gardens are so beautiful that I couldn't even attempt to snap all the pictures I wanted. There are so many beautiful paintings to look at this but this was one of
I decided to do a little research on the phrase and here is what I found: I was unable to find its exact origin, however it is believed to have originated in the United States. Some believe that it dates back around 100 years; however, there is no documentation supporting that belief. One particular reference suggested that it originated with a album released in the early 1980's by Ringo Starr. The album was titled 'Stop and Smell the Roses," however it is my contention that the phrase was in use long before Starr recorded his album. One reference suggests that 'stop and smell the roses' was used in conversation between friends, one of whom had a beautiful rose garden. The friend worked so diligently in the rose garden that she did not take the time to enjoy her work. Her friend gently reminded her to stop working and experience the beauty she had created. Sometimes we get so caught up in the things of this life that we truly do not "Stop and Smell the Roses". I don't know about you but at times I need a reminder...a reminder to enjoy life to the fullest and to slow down a tad, catch my breath and to simply look around me at the things that are important and that bring me pleasure...It's the SIMPLE things in life that bring the greatest pleasures!
A simple little fruit cup with cool whip in one of my pretty little dishes.
The smile on my great-nephews face that is priceless!
Being able to admire my cute little Tea pot I got for Valentine's Day.
Spending time with precious friends.
The smell of a cake coming out of the oven.
Walking into the grandbabies play room to find toys they left out....For Nana to put up!!!!
The fishing pond that has brought our family so much fun and joy.
Fire wood sitting beside our barn that we have enjoyed all winter long outside and inside!
This cute little fella simply because he makes me smile.
Walking on my front porch to only find that my grands has decided that my little birdies need to be in the bird house and not on my shelf!!!! LOL!
Life truly does have some simple pleasures for us to enjoy...If we would only Stop to Smell the Roses!
Speaking of "Stopping"....think I will stop to enjoy these little pleasures of life!
Psalm 16:11, You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
We may always remember to enjoy Christ, the very one who gave us life!

ReplyDeleteWe miss out on so much when we stay fast paced all the time. I am as guilty as anyone! Need the reminder myself. And just for the record, I love those little chocolates too!

So needed this reminder. Whenever I take the time to slow down I find that I connect with myself and others on a deeper level. It reminds me to live my life with compassion. To be kind to myself and to others. It is a feeling of peace. Have a blessed day my friend...Johnna D.
ReplyDeleteGreat post today Cindy. I think I'll take the day to 'smell all my roses.' Then I'm going to fix Mr D and I a fruit cup. Yummy, that picture made me hungry!!! Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, needed reminder today, my Friend. I'm looking forward to seeing my roses soon. They're starting to bud! :)
ReplyDeleteA wonderful reminder, my default is busy, busy busy, but each day is a gift and should be treated as if it were our last.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great reminder for me and I love all of your roses that you smelled along the way! Precious!
ReplyDeleteOh, Cindy - you are a delight! Loved reviewing your posts of late - all that great mountain loot - my, where do you keep it all??
ReplyDeleteLove all your green for St. Patrick's Day - and the lesson of the roses that smell so sweet with such ministry to spirit and soul if we take the time to glory in their goodness - truly a gift from God.
Thanks - I needed "permission" to do so today. That old chatterbox in my head has been making me drive the work wagon with much stress and guilt when I long for some play time.
Hoping to get some by Sunday - still haven't finished spring-ifying my home decor after putting winter away. Will be very wintry in our house the next couple of weeks with lows in the 20s and our heater broken. Waiting for the conversion to gas so we're making it on space heaters and thanking God the whole way through it!
Hooray for spring - here soon!
Joy!
Kathy
Cindy, I've heard that saying all of my life as well. There is beauty in so many things, if we just take the time to notice it. MMMMM, love those truffles!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
I took time to smell your "roses!" This is all so true about the little things in life. I love the way with words you have, a true gift!
