{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

Things that make me happy!

Fried potato sandwich with Mayo makes me REAL Happy!

This sign is in my daughter Melissa's dining room. I love it!

Our friend Kaci does lots of different signs. If you are on FB she can be found at Repurposed & Rustic.

This has quickly became my new favorite toy, a bamboo salt box! While baking bread with friends recently I was introduced to this cute little thing.

And of course I had to have one! You can find them on Amazon but I found mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Love the way the lid just slides to the side magnetically.

I cook a lot with Kosher salt and I've been cooking some with Sea salt. My new favorite salt is Himalayan Pink Salt

Hand written recipes: The $300 Fudge recipe was a favorite of mine growing up as every Christmas my granny would make a large batch. She would make enough for us to enjoy all through the holiday season and of course enough for us to carry home some too!

The Dressing recipe: My motherinlove made this every year for our family for Thanksgiving. It quickly became my favorite as a young woman. As I got older and decided to take the reigns of Dressing making for my family this became my favorite recipe. She wrote it down for me years ago and of course now I think I can make it in my sleep.

The eye glasses that sit nestled at the corner belonged to my great-grandmother. She called them her eye spectacles.

Awe...good old Deer Burgers we processed. I love venison for starters but you just can't beat a good old fashion burger especially when you've processed it yourself and seasoned it just like you wanted too.

We took almost a whole day to process some venison into burgers and sausage patties. I had a great recipe from a hunter on a hunting cooking show actually. I tweaked it and tweaked it until we got it just like we wanted too. Can't wait to do process more venison this year.

Ooh and awe...my homemade caramel sauce!

I made a Caramel Cream cake recently that will melt in your mouth and this caramel sauce coated each of the 3 layer cake. The problem was that I was beginning to wonder if I've have enough to use on my cake....(someone just kept on tasting it) LOL!

It's the simple things in life that bring the greatest pleasures! Enjoy the simplicity of life!

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  9. Such sweet favorite things. Your salt box is interesting. I haven't seen them before. I have a glass salt jar that looks vintage. Found at World Market. We have venison and elk. I'd love to know more about your venison burgers. I've never been a fan of ground venison. We have ground elk this year and I'm trying to adapt to it, but all other cuts of venison and elk are superb in my book.

  11. Cindy, I am getting hungry looking at your list here....yum! :) I have had deer meat only once that I can recall. A friend of mine had hunted and caught a deer and so he gave me some of the meat. It was very good! I have never heard of a fried potato sandwich but your photo of it makes it look quite good!

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
