{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

{Family Fun and Cranberry Bread Recipe}

What have you all done fun lately? I ask a friend of mine that question on Sunday at church as I usually don't see her because she sits upstairs in the balcony. She smiled and said, "FUN? I don't even know the meaning of that word unless it means to go to work 5 days a week, come home, cook, wash and clean and then right back at it". I knew where her heart was because I've been there before myself, but the truth is, even in the routine of life we must find ways to make a little fun or have a little fun to break up the crazy routine of life.

So, we enjoyed watching our grandgirl Mallory play some ball over the weekend and that was fun.

 This gal loves to play ball . She is catcher and a batter and well, will play most any spot they put her in.

She is one of those well rounded girls. Loves to dress up in her pretty outfits with her jewels and bows. She loves to deer hunt and yes, she has harvested several deer. And she loves to play ball. We sure have fun watching her. Makes my nerves bad though....y'all know what I mean????

 Now her younger sister is another story! That girl does her own thing!
Here is what she does while her sister plays ball.

 She's the one with the huge pink bow and sunglasses. She has a set of groupies she hangs out with at the games.

Or you may find her too tired to be a groupie so she takes a break.

 There is never a dull moment with that one!

And I also like trying new recipes and for me that's fun.

Okay, so let me tell how I decided to make cranberry bread. A friend of mine told me to get a pack of dried cranberries because they are good for you and makes a great snack.  Well I did and I DO NOT LIKE DRIED CRANERRIES! So I thought well maybe if I make them in a bread I will like that because after all...bread will make it really healthy good.

So I found a recipe and tweaked it just a tad.

Isn't this bowl just the cutest?

I am posting the recipe for you if you want to try it but I'm going to confess. I did not like it.  My man loved it! He said it's really good warmed up. I don't know if it was the cranberries that done me in or what! I love cranberry sauce with my ham, turkey and dressing. Maybe I should have tired fresh cranberries. But it sure did smell good while baking and was so pretty to look at.

 My other FUN thing to do was go and purchase baseboards for my little room.

And my man got the baseboards down.

 Now to get the outlets covered and then I'll go from there. I have been looking at material to possibly make curtains for the two windows in the room but I have about decided it would cheaper to buy some curtains if I can find some that I like. One step at a time right? Granny used to say that Rome wasn't built in a day.

Well, I hope that you too will find some fun in the midst of this busy life that we all lead. The Bible says that a people without Hope will perish. Well I am going to say that a life without a little fun of some kind will make one downtrodden. Have some fun today! Dance in the rain. Eat ice cream at midnight. Hide a candy bar in your frig and sneak in there to get it out and eat it when everyone is in bed. Listen to an old song from your past that brings back lots of good memories. Listen to the birds chirp. Go to a movie. Do something fun my friends. Life is short...may we grasp each day as if it were our last.

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  5. Hi Cindy! I agree, we all need a little fun. Some of us need a lot. Yes, I understand what you're saying about watching the grands play ball. It can be intense. We may feel a little like Sonja working on Jack to say "flaky." Ha! (Only you will know what I mean by that.) If you can find the curtains you like without sewing, go for it. Much easier! Your room is coming together and soon will be a done deal.

  6. Your grandchildren really keep you busy and what joys they must be!! You are right we need to have a bit of fun each day and sometimes we have to work a little to find that fun or make it happen. Your craft room is coming right along. Oh what FUN you'll have in there! Happy week, friend!

  8. Now Mallory is my inspiration. She'll play in any spot they put her in...tells me she's a winner right there. But I think your whole family are winners they way they all support one another and do so much together. I like the progress of your little room and I like cranberries. I toss them in my salad and love cranberry orange muffins so I copied your recipe to give it a try. You are so right to look for something fun in our ordinary days. Big hugs!

  12. Cindy, I am laughing at your little groupie!My kind of girl. Just do your own thing. Amazing pictures of your little ball player. My first glance at her little face through that helmet said, "A girl that's kind". I bet she has that temperament. Try making the bread Cindy with fresh cranberries. I bet you will like it better. 16. I have a granddaughter like yours who loves to play ball, so much that she plays baseball, not softball, on an all boys team. She will be 12 in a few weeks. I go to her games as much as I can. And yes, I try to have fun but then get into trouble or overdue and I am down for a week....no fun! Fun for me is thrifting and shopping for things I love. Not sure I have had cranberry bread....maybe it is not sweet enough?

I agree with you, we must have fun in what we do... laughter really should be considered medicine :) There is something about laughing that just makes you feel better, and I loved all your suggestions, but giggled at the one of hiding chocolate in the fridge, lol! Sorry that your cranberry bread didn't taste good to you, that happens sometimes, but glad your husband enjoyed it! It is good to hear your honest report on what you think. Always enjoy a visit with you... hope you had a wonderful and fun day! PS - the baseboards look great! Your room is coming right along!

    1. Thanks for stopping by to see me. Yes we gotta laugh . Sometimes it keeps us from crying . Well I'm gonna share a secret that we laugh about to this day . My SIL had 4 boys and if she wanted anything she had to hide it ! She would hide her snickers bar and when they went to bed she would eat it ! 😂 Well when my girls were all home they would have to write their names on their snacks in the frig to keep their daddy from eating it . We think about all those funny things now and still have the biggest laugh . Have a great day .

  22. Hi Cindy! My son was a catcher on his baseball team, and I think I winced every time the batter would swing. It looked like his head was going to be hit. I don't miss those days! But you are a wonderful grandma to come and watch her play. You know she loves your being there!
    Congrats on the new room, and the newer baseboards. They really do finish off a room.
    I like dried cranberries on a salad, but I can't say I 'snack' on them. Your cranberry bread looks delicious though. I bet it made your house smell divine!

I am happy to see the smiles on your grandkid;s faces, a cranberry bread that you make despite the fact that you won't eat it. I do that too btw, make all sorts of food for the hubs and then not eat it. Have a blessed week.

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
