Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too. Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway. We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20. We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...
What have you all done fun lately? I ask a friend of mine that question on Sunday at church as I usually don't see her because she sits upstairs in the balcony. She smiled and said, "FUN? I don't even know the meaning of that word unless it means to go to work 5 days a week, come home, cook, wash and clean and then right back at it". I knew where her heart was because I've been there before myself, but the truth is, even in the routine of life we must find ways to make a little fun or have a little fun to break up the crazy routine of life.
So, we enjoyed watching our grandgirl Mallory play some ball over the weekend and that was fun.
This gal loves to play ball . She is catcher and a batter and well, will play most any spot they put her in.
She is one of those well rounded girls. Loves to dress up in her pretty outfits with her jewels and bows. She loves to deer hunt and yes, she has harvested several deer. And she loves to play ball. We sure have fun watching her. Makes my nerves bad though....y'all know what I mean????
Now her younger sister is another story! That girl does her own thing!
Here is what she does while her sister plays ball.
She's the one with the huge pink bow and sunglasses. She has a set of groupies she hangs out with at the games.
Or you may find her too tired to be a groupie so she takes a break.
There is never a dull moment with that one!
And I also like trying new recipes and for me that's fun.
Okay, so let me tell how I decided to make cranberry bread. A friend of mine told me to get a pack of dried cranberries because they are good for you and makes a great snack. Well I did and I DO NOT LIKE DRIED CRANERRIES! So I thought well maybe if I make them in a bread I will like that because after all...bread will make it reallyhealthy good.
So I found a recipe and tweaked it just a tad.
Isn't this bowl just the cutest?
I am posting the recipe for you if you want to try it but I'm going to confess. I did not like it. My man loved it! He said it's really good warmed up. I don't know if it was the cranberries that done me in or what! I love cranberry sauce with my ham, turkey and dressing. Maybe I should have tired fresh cranberries. But it sure did smell good while baking and was so pretty to look at.
My other FUN thing to do was go and purchase baseboards for my little room.
And my man got the baseboards down.
Now to get the outlets covered and then I'll go from there. I have been looking at material to possibly make curtains for the two windows in the room but I have about decided it would cheaper to buy some curtains if I can find some that I like. One step at a time right? Granny used to say that Rome wasn't built in a day.
Well, I hope that you too will find some fun in the midst of this busy life that we all lead. The Bible says that a people without Hope will perish. Well I am going to say that a life without a little fun of some kind will make one downtrodden. Have some fun today! Dance in the rain. Eat ice cream at midnight. Hide a candy bar in your frig and sneak in there to get it out and eat it when everyone is in bed. Listen to an old song from your past that brings back lots of good memories. Listen to the birds chirp. Go to a movie. Do something fun my friends. Life is short...may we grasp each day as if it were our last.

Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Oh your granddaughters are so pretty and so much fun, Cindy. I have a bag of cranberries that I just threw in the freezer so maybe I will try this recipe.....Christine
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine . I think the recipe is great. I just didn't like the cranberries. Give it a try.
DeleteSuch a wise woman you are, my friend. We need fun in our lives...at least once a day...or hour. :) I so enjoyed this post. Your room is going to look fantastic! I love everything about it so far! Talk about fun! Wait until you have it all done...then you will be having fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your cranberry bread recipe. We love cranberries so I will be using the recipe for sure. :) Hugs to you dear one.
Dianna, I know you are fun person too . I'm ready to start doing my thing in my little room soon . I'm trying to be patient .
DeleteI love how you have fun... I think after the health scare you had, having more fun is at the top of your to-do list! I had fun Yesterday going to the movies with our kiddos.
ReplyDeleteDeb I bet you did have fun the kids . They will grandparents young ... or wore out . lol .
DeleteI always thought that I would have all this wonderful, free time when I got to be this age. Time for FUN and MORE FUN. Ain't happening! lol I am busier now that I was when I was working, I think. lol I DO have a lot of fun with my grandkids though. They bring me a lot of joy.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks good and it looks like your room is coming right along. Bet you are anxious to get it done. xo Diana
Oh girl I've decided the more time you think you have the less you really do . Yes those grandbabies bring joy and a smile even my worst day ever .
DeleteHi Cindy! I agree, we all need a little fun. Some of us need a lot. Yes, I understand what you're saying about watching the grands play ball. It can be intense. We may feel a little like Sonja working on Jack to say "flaky." Ha! (Only you will know what I mean by that.) If you can find the curtains you like without sewing, go for it. Much easier! Your room is coming together and soon will be a done deal.
ReplyDeleteYour grandchildren really keep you busy and what joys they must be!! You are right we need to have a bit of fun each day and sometimes we have to work a little to find that fun or make it happen. Your craft room is coming right along. Oh what FUN you'll have in there! Happy week, friend!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for ideas in curtains now . Wish me luck .
Deletelol Vee . So true bout jack and Sonja . Yep I'm gonna start looking for curtains soon .
ReplyDeleteNow Mallory is my inspiration. She'll play in any spot they put her in...tells me she's a winner right there. But I think your whole family are winners they way they all support one another and do so much together. I like the progress of your little room and I like cranberries. I toss them in my salad and love cranberry orange muffins so I copied your recipe to give it a try. You are so right to look for something fun in our ordinary days. Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary for your kind words about my family . Mallory is for sure a team player .
DeleteThank you for the fit of giggles over the "groupies"...loving the look of the room, Cindy. Have a beautiful day.
ReplyDeletelol Linda . That little groupie is a mess for sure. .
DeleteBoth of your granddaughters are adorable! How fun to be able to spend time with them, that way! Your room is looking good!! Your cranberry bread looked yummy, too -- I love cranberries in all forms -- I may have to give that a try! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise . Glad you came by today .
DeleteHi Cindy, good to see that you're still finding simple blessings in everyday life ~ You're such an inspiration! Also lovin' seeing your craft room coming along, you'll be done pretty soon now and ready to make lots more creative wonders xx
ReplyDeleteAwe Josie , so glad you stopped by today .
DeleteCindy, I am laughing at your little groupie! My kind of girl. Just do your own thing. Amazing pictures of your little ball player. My first glance at her little face through that helmet said, "A girl that's kind". I bet she has that temperament. Try making the bread Cindy with fresh cranberries. I bet you will like it better. I love cranberry muffins.
ReplyDeleteConnie Royals
Thanks Connie . Yes that ball player has a kind and sweet heart and I'm not saying it cause she's mine . She truly is a sweet girl . She makes us grandparents mighty proud .
DeleteNot sure how that tasted but it looks totally amazing! I have been pinning lots of breads on PINTEREST but have not tried any yet. I want to bake but I can't eat any of it since my bypass surgery (weight)...As for the granddaughter, I am the second one!HAHA...those pics are too adorable.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam . That little groupie grandgirl keeps us all on our toes and we wouldn't have it any other way .
DeleteGood Morning Lovely and Sweet Friend!
ReplyDeleteYa'll just stay so busy in such wonderful ways! Love these sweet photos of your loves. Gosh that flooring and those baseboards look amazing, you and that man of yours are a good team!
I'm in for the bread...just made a blackberry cobbler for the hubby and I!
Thinking of you and wishing you a positively fabulous day!
Hugs,
jemma
Awe thanks Jemma. I bet your kitchen is smelling yummy right about now too . Have fun in your garden today . I see you are already in the midst of the dirt . Lol
DeleteYes indeed Cindy, we must find FUN in something every single day. Just the little things in life make me happy, and like you, baking makes me happy (oh, and eating the results, too)!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeng both your grand girls! That was too cute! Your cranberry bread looks delish, but I've only ever made it with fresh cranberries. I'm sure I'd be like your sweet hubby, and love it, too. I hope you're feeling well my friend. Love and blessings, Kitty
Thanks kitty . I may try that bread again with fresh cranberries . But at least my man likes it. The grands are a mess and a joy aren't they Kitty ?
DeleteI have a granddaughter like yours who loves to play ball, so much that she plays baseball, not softball, on an all boys team. She will be 12 in a few weeks. I go to her games as much as I can. And yes, I try to have fun but then get into trouble or overdue and I am down for a week....no fun! Fun for me is thrifting and shopping for things I love. Not sure I have had cranberry bread....maybe it is not sweet enough?
ReplyDeleteAwe I bet our ball playing grandgirls would have a great time together . Thrifting is fun to me too !❤ have a great day .
DeleteI enjoyed seeing the pictures of your grands, how much fun they are! I agree with you, we must have fun in what we do... laughter really should be considered medicine :) There is something about laughing that just makes you feel better, and I loved all your suggestions, but giggled at the one of hiding chocolate in the fridge, lol! Sorry that your cranberry bread didn't taste good to you, that happens sometimes, but glad your husband enjoyed it! It is good to hear your honest report on what you think. Always enjoy a visit with you... hope you had a wonderful and fun day! PS - the baseboards look great! Your room is coming right along!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to see me. Yes we gotta laugh . Sometimes it keeps us from crying . Well I'm gonna share a secret that we laugh about to this day . My SIL had 4 boys and if she wanted anything she had to hide it ! She would hide her snickers bar and when they went to bed she would eat it ! 😂 Well when my girls were all home they would have to write their names on their snacks in the frig to keep their daddy from eating it . We think about all those funny things now and still have the biggest laugh . Have a great day .
DeleteWhat sweet little girls! So cute and unique. Your cranberry bread looks delicious. I'm hoping to have some fun this weekend when my daughter gets here along with celebrating my mother's life. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie. Thinking of you dear lady with the loss of your mom. Praying for you during the memorial service and asking our Lord to give you the strength you need. I am sure you are looking forward to your daughter being home even in the midst of these circumstances. It won't be long Melanie before a freshness will come for you. I know your son is probably ready to get you moved to Tenn. I do hope you have a good day in the Lord.
DeleteBaseball and grandchildren, the entertainment is non stop with both of them. Kyleigh cracks me up!
ReplyDeleteIt's almost the weekend and I'm sure you will be on the bleachers rooting on Mallory and finishing up your room. Those floors are beautiful!
Awe thank you sweet friend .
DeleteCindy, you know how to enjoy a day! The granddaughters are so cute. I am glad you are making progress on your room and the bread looks fabulous! Have a wonderful weekend and hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Pam . You my friend are such an inspiration .
DeleteI LOVE cranberries....but Mr. Sweet is like you...he likes Cranberry Sauce but nothing else made with them.
ReplyDeletePraying for Mr. Sweet dear BJ. I have you both on my mind a lot. YEP, cranberry sauce is good at Thanksgiving and Christmas for me but that's about the extent of my cranberries.
DeleteHi Cindy! My son was a catcher on his baseball team, and I think I winced every time the batter would swing. It looked like his head was going to be hit. I don't miss those days! But you are a wonderful grandma to come and watch her play. You know she loves your being there!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new room, and the newer baseboards. They really do finish off a room.
I like dried cranberries on a salad, but I can't say I 'snack' on them. Your cranberry bread looks delicious though. I bet it made your house smell divine!
Have a fun-filled week!
Ceil
Ceil, she has taken some hard blows but bless her heart, but she holds her own. I'd be CRYING! LOL!
DeleteCindy it is always a pleasure coming to visit you! Your blog is such a positive, happy place. And that is really what we need in this world. There is so much misery and negativity out there. I am happy to see the smiles on your grandkid;s faces, a cranberry bread that you make despite the fact that you won't eat it. I do that too btw, make all sorts of food for the hubs and then not eat it. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary. Yes we do need more positive, happy. Sometimes we just have to laugh instead of cry, right?
DeleteYou are sooo very right my friend ! We must find FUN in every day and even in our routine when retired. I do have fun with friends and family. World situations scare me and makes me feel unsafe, though.
ReplyDeleteAgain, the pics of your pretty grandgirl playing ball are terrific.
I'm also pinning and making this cranberry bread soon. Thanks for sharing.
FABBY
Yes we must have fun in life . Even if it wears us out to do it ! Lol .
