Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too. Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway. We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20. We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...
I had a hankering for some sausage and potato soup over the weekend and a hot sandwich. Do you like hot sandwiches or prefer cold ones? I like both actually and could eat a sandwich everyday. But, my man eats sandwiches through the week so I try real hard not to fix him sandwiches for a meal. But oh this hot sandwich goes so well with soups.
Simple ingredients so it was easy peasy. I used a large cookie sheet so I used three cans of Crescent rolls, two different kinds of cheese and ham and turkey.
I lined my pan with aluminum foil and lightly sprayed it with Pam. Placed crescent rolls on the pan and just pressed down so all seams connected good.Nothing fancy as you can see. I just made it work best I could.
Melted some butter in the microwave and I brushed butter on the layer of Crescent rolls. You can use olive oil or whatever you want too.
I placed a slice of ham on top of Crescent rolls, then layered it with two different kinds of cheese in no particular order and then layered the cheese with a slice of turkey.
Topped it with more Crescent Rolls and pinched all the edges together as best as I could.
I brushed the top layer of Crescent rolls with butter and then sprinkled Italian seasoning on top and just a tad of course sea salt. At the last minute before baking I sprinkled Parmesan cheese on top. You can't have enough cheese in my book.
Bake on 350 for 30 minutes. So, so good!
These sandwiches are light, fluffy and thin. I felt I could actually taste my meat and cheese instead of having so much bread. Goes great with soups. Give them a try.
And...I didn't need all that bread since I needed one of these! LOL!
This sweet grand girl stayed with me all weekend and she really wanted that ice cream so Nana had to make it happen you know!
She kept Nana busy for sure.
We have done a little bit of everything over the weekend. We went shopping, we colored, we done nails.
We went walking down the dirt road and yes, it was after we ate the ice cream. Ha!
We had a tea party in the grands play room. Who says you can't have a tea party with Gatorade and Yogurt? That's what she wanted so that's what we had!
There isn't much that we didn't do. We watched a couple of movies together and I am trying to teach her the "fine art" of watching Christmas Hallmark movies! HA!!! Well, she hasn't quite got it yet. We stayed too busy to watch too much of anything.
Which honestly, that's a good thing. I see so much of television, cell phones and Ipads becoming more of the caregiver these days for the kids.
had shared about the Blessing Jar book for kids and how she enjoyed it so much with her granddaughter. I knew immediately I too wanted that sweet book to share with my babies. So, I read the Blessing book to Kyleigh, grabbed a jar and out the door we went. She wanted to go on an adventure so an adventure we went. She picked leaves, flowers, sticks, herbs, you name it and she filled the jar. There are so many things to be "Thankful" for. Can't wait to share this wonderful book with another one of my grandbabies.
And just so you know.....We have matching necklace and bracelet and as she said, "Nana, me and you are the bestest friends!
I hope you all have a wonderful week. Take a walk outside if you can. Go on an adventure and look at all that God has given you to be thankful for. It's the simple things in life that bring the greatest pleasures.
Hugs and blessings, Cindy

That's so cute about best friends!! The hot sandwich sounds amazing--a real treat!! I love when you share the fun you have with your sweet grands. I like that you're introducing her to Hallmark Christmas movies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather. I am a fan of sandwiches and especially with soup. Yes, everyone needs to be introduced to those wonderful Hallmark movies! Marty says, You know what is going to happen in everyone of them!!! YEP, but at least it ends happy. LOL!
DeleteOh Cindy this is such a sweet post. I will definitely try your hot sandwich recipe, aren’t crescent rolls the best invention ever? You grandgirl is so cute and I love all your fun activities. Thank you for the shout-out my friend! Hugs and blessings!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam. I just love the Blessings book and so glad that you shared it with us. I will get to use that book with several of my grands.
DeleteWhat a great blog post!!!!! Thank you for the many smiles...and with this chilly weather, I enjoy hot sandwiches and soup, smiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Been thinking about you with all you have going on. YES sandwiches and soup! I love them all year round!
DeleteOh I love this post, Cindy. There's always a sweet feeling when I visit you and when there's a hot sandwich too...it's all good!
ReplyDeleteMy husband refuses to eat sandwiches but he would like this. Thanks!!
Thanks Stacey. Marty eats sandwiches all through the week as he works in conditions that he can't heat up a plate nor just run and go out to eat. So I truly do hate feeding him a sandwich however, this was a good meaty hot sandwich and with sausage and potato soup....YUM!
DeleteI'm watching and taking notes from you! Being a fun grandma like you, is so memorable. That's what I want for my grand kids, too!
ReplyDeleteAwe, you are so sweet. But girl, you took your babies to see the Lion King! I am so jealous! Would love to do that with mine. Thanks for coming by.
DeleteSo glad that you had a fun weekend! I know it was a blast! Those hot sandwiches look amazing!! The hubster would definitely love that so I'm stealing your recipe if that's okay! :-) Hope you are having a great day! Love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteSteal away! We enjoyed those easy sandwiches. I got them ready the night before eating them and popped them in the oven and wala! Good to go.
DeleteHello, I saw your comment on Debbie's blog and I thought the sweet ladies who comment there absolutely must be a joy to visit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious, precious blog, I just love the greatness and love you share with that grand-daughter! Fun Mi-Mis are bestest! : ) I will be a genuine Mi-Mi starting this February and then once again in May.
Blessings! ~Amelia
Awe, so glad you came by. You are too sweet! Yes, precious ladies on Debbie's blog for sure. I adore her. Congratulations on becoming a Mi-Mi in February and May. What a blessings.
DeleteI think I will make these sandwiches over the weekend Cindy and some veggie soup. Easy enough. Love the pictures and I know she kept you busy. But a fun busy I am sure. Awe, the Blessing Jar book and the blessings in the jar made me happy. What a blessing to have such a special time with your little best friend.
ReplyDeleteConnie Royals
Thanks Connie! Kyleigh keeps it real and I adore her! The Blessing Jar is a great little read for the younger kids and a wonderful way to remind them to be thankful for even the sticks that God gives to us! Love that little book.
DeleteOh my goodness....that last sentence of "Nana, you and meare the bestest friends" just melted this other Nana's heart!! Don't we just love our grands so much, Cindy?? You had the most wonderful time together. That sandwich looks so good, too, and yes, I would go for a Drumstick!! I think I may hav to order that book. It sounds like a good one. Love to you, sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kitty. Yes, that melted this old Nana's heart. I hope that I am always her best friend. The ice cream was so good! I surely did need to walk after that! LOL!
DeleteI prefer hot sandwiches so I was salivating over your easy hot sandwich! I loved how you enjoyed Gatorade and yogurt at your tea party with your granddaughter. Thanks for the tip of the Blessing Jar book...I'll have to check it out for my godson.
ReplyDeleteAwe, it's a great little book Margie. Your godson would love it. Girl, it doesn't matter if it's cookies and tea or gatorade and yogurt does it? It's all about the memories.
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend your weekend...your grandchildren are SO blessed to have you as their Nana. Wish you could be MY Nana too! May I come do all those fun things with you? Please Please Please? Those sandwiches look REALLY good. Wow. And to have a tea party with your grandgirl, even if it IS gatorade and yogurt...it's the togetherness and the thrill of pouring in cups and enjoying that special time...that's what counts. The Blessing Jar sounds so wonderful. Wish I had a little one to do things with. What a blessing. Thank you for sharing with us. That was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteOh Pam...you are so right! It is the TOGETHERNESS! One day I hope that that my grands will remember the fun times we had and that it will always bring a smile.
DeleteOh Cindy! Is there anything sweeter than a grandgirl telling you that you are bestest friends? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteI always did a lot with my grandkids when they were that age, too. Now that they are older we watch movies together or play games like Scrabble and Sequence.
Have a wonderful week! xo Diana
My grands range from 14 1/2 years old to 6 months old. So it is always a treat to do the things with them that they enjoy and life. My oldest grandgirl loves to bake and watch Hallmark with me so you know that is right up my ally! LOL!
DeleteI've got to try that sandwich, looks so good. And, that sweet Granddaughter, sweet times for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt was good Lea. Meaty but not all the bread. We enjoyed it.
DeleteOh, my precious friend, what a heart you have...for not just your family, but EVERYBODY!!! Even your sweet grand girl sees you as a "bestest friend" I truly wish we lived closer to each other...what a grand time we'd have! Love you bunches!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Deb, would we ever have a great time! I cannot imagine my life without my family. Oh my! They keep me going! Love you lady!
DeleteWell first of all, that sandwich looks AMAZING. I love a bit of a sammy with my soup as long as it's not too "bready", since soup can fill you up so fast anyway. I need to try that! Your weekend with darling Kyleigh looked like so much fun and I can see why she'd say you guys were bestest friends...you are creating such precious memories that will never be forgotten. I never knew either of my grandmothers so this post really speaks to my heart. Love you, my friend! ♥
ReplyDeleteWe did have fun but her last day with me I finally told her, Nana has to rest a bit! LOL! Oh my grandmother was my heart and I have so many precious memories of her. I am so blessed and thankful for it too. My girls also knew the love of my grandmother, their great-grandmother and Marty's mom, Nanny Conner was a huge part of their life! We have been truly blessed Debby.
DeleteLove your sandwich idea! I will try that!
ReplyDeleteYou are the best grandmother! How old is this sweet girl? Sorry, I can't remember her name. I'm thinking I need to order that book for my grands.
Your weekend sounds so nice and her sweet comment will last you forever!
Bonnie, Kyleigh is 7 years old and she has a heart that loves everyone. She never meets a stranger which makes me nervous at times but her little personality is one that I truly adore! The book is a must! Love it!
DeleteOh, what a sweet time you had together! She will never forget the love you pour into her life. God bless you, and thank you for sharing that amazing sandwich idea! I would love to try that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl. I think of you so often lady. Yes, try the sandwiches. Very filling.
DeleteOh My... Cindy, you nailed it again. whenever I see you and your granddaughter together, my heart melts and I can feel the joy too...such lovely nails ha.. I want those. And I love sandwiches hot and cold, love your version of it.. I will do that too. thank you for sharing. Take care.
ReplyDeleteGirl, she came to my house with 3 sets of nails! LOL! She loves them! Yes, try the sandwiches. Very good and meaty. Love it that they didn't have so much thick bread! Glad you came by.
DeleteThose cheese sandwiches look wonderful. I've copied down the directions for those. The Simply Dipped are my favorite kind of those! The nuts just go everywhere. :) Love see photos of the little ones. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie. Hope you are feeling better.
DeleteOh so sweet! You two are the bestest friends! I hate when busyness keeps me from enjoying the simple things like spending time with my grandchildren. I do have a girls day planned with my daughters and granddaughters after Thanksgiving but the one on one with one child is the best!
ReplyDeleteWell Ann Marie, I have 6 of those sweet grands and sometimes it's hard to do one on one. Everyone so busy. But I praise the Lord for moments making memories.
DeleteYou know, for some reason I am excited about putting up Christmas...I love the decor andd the lights, and I love the music. I have always been a hard core don't do till have Thanksgiving but I think I might start on it now. Like you said, what used to take just a tad little time takes forever now. Esp for me, the pain makes me stop and rest while doing it all and I don't do all the rooms like I used to. Like you, just give me my tree, a good movie and my pjs and I am good! First....clean the house....yes, that is a must gotta clean first. haha
ReplyDeleteChristmas tree, pj,s movie..can't go wrong.
DeleteGood morning to you, my sweet friend! I must say that those sandwiches look ever so good! I have never made them like that and now I MUST! :) They do indeed look perfect to have with a bowl of soup.
ReplyDeleteYour post was a joy to read and oh, the moments you share with your precious grandchildren always touch my heart. Such precious memories...
Wishing you a lovely day! Hugs and love to you!
Thanks Stephanie for your sweet words. Yes, those little sandwiches are very tasty. I really liked using the crescent rolls too. Those grands are the best.
DeleteSo sweet Cindy! AND the crescent roll sandwich is right up my crescent roll loving alley! I will definitely make this asap!
ReplyDeleteJenna
LOL! Jenna, I like Crescent rolls too!
DeleteOh that does sound so good, like melt in your mouth good!! It's already cold and we're supposed to get up to 2" of snow tonight, so wouldn't that be perfect. Looks like you had fun with your sweet Grand. They're always a delight!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Snow! It bet it is so pretty. Sandwiches very good with soup.
DeleteJust dropping in to let you know the sandwiches are in the oven right now. Mmmm... can't wait to have them with our soup tonight. It's been so cold here and I thought these tasty treats with hot soup would be just the thing.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, my friend. Hugs to you!
Hope they turned out good for you Stephanie.
DeleteI wanted to thank you for this very good read!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely enjoyed every bit of it. I have you book-marked to look at new things you
