{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

{Christmas Fun}

How about some Christmas fun this week with a few questions. Inquiring minds wants to know.....AND as I ask the questions I will share some recent pictures with you. I bet you knew that already didn't you? LOL!

I had a little fun snapping a few pictures of these two grandgirls while in Georgia Thanksgiving weekend.

Oh the Joy of Sisters
 The Secrets they share
The love that's between them
There's nothing else to compare.

1: Do you have a particular color or theme that you go for when decorating for Christmas?

My Answer: No not really. I decorate with what I like. But I do tend to gravitate towards the traditional reds and golds. AND SANTA'S! Love me some Santa's.

2: Do you decorate more than one tree in your home?

That old Georgia Cotton field sure did make a pretty backdrop.

My Answer:  I didn't this year. I can remember years ago putting up quite a few trees. A few years back I decorated one for my kitchen and one for the living room. This year...I've done good to get one decorated! But If I had the time YES, I would have a different tree in every room! I love it!

3: Do you host Christmas parties during the holidays at your home?

Recently we had a girls night out to eat and then to attend the "BEHOLD" Christmas Tour with Lauren Daigle, Christian singer. My daughters, two oldest granddaughters and I enjoyed it so much.  Of course we ended our night with "Fresh and hot donuts" from Krispy Kreme....THE LIGHT WAS ON!

These sweet girls had never been to a concert before so it was indeed a treat for them.

My answer:  I haven't this year. Over the years I have hosted parties whether it be for friends of ours or some of my girlfriends. It seems that everyone is so busy during the holiday season with so many obligations that they are wore thin. I read an article recently that said because of the stress and the cost that associates hosting a holiday party that more people tended to meet, greet and go out to eat with others.

My oldest granddaughter has past this Nana up in height....

4: Last one.....
When do you put away your Christmas Decor?

Yep, these three are mine! And believe me...I DO NOT want to know the secrets these sisters may share! LOL!

My Answer:  Every year is different it seems. One year I was packing things up the day after Christmas. It seems to take me longer to get things decorated so now I just want to enjoy it as much as I can.

Hoping you all have a great week and maybe bake some cookies this week for someone special...or call a friend that you haven't chatted with in a while....or send a card to someone that might be feeling a tad low this time of the year....And above all....enjoy each day of life...It's a GIFT from God.

  1. I love all the pictures. That cotton field is does make a pretty background. Brings back a few memories for me. Me and my sister loves Lauren Daigle. She's got a voice on her. I had several friends go to the concert that loved it. At this point of my life Cindy, I am just glad to get up a tree! LOL!

    1. Connie, we did enjoy the concert. She sang Christmas songs of course, it was a Christmas tour but at then end she sang two songs that brought the house down! Yep, this old Baptist girl bout turned Pentecostal. HA!

  2. Hi Cindy! Your grands are gorgeous and their grandmother does a great job photographing them. I have two trees up this year, but I used to have 3 or 4. I used to host quite a few Christmas parties, but you are right, people are so busy. My decorations come down sometime before New Year’s Day. Your daughters are beautiful! Hugs sweet lady!

  3. What beautiful photos you shot of your granddaughters. I love that cotton field! I decorate with mostly red but I like traditional and Scandinavian styles. I do have one tree of all blue tones on a white tree so I guess I mix it up depending on the room. We are planning a party this year. It's been awhile!

    1. Thanks Heather. It was Mallory's birthday weekend so while in Georgia with tracks and cotton fields I snapped a few pictures of her and her sister. I can't wait to see your pictures of your Christmas party. You always throw the best parties.

  4. Hi, Cindy. Your granddaughters are beautiful! I love your photos.
    1. Last year I changed our colors for the holiday season a bit. I think that was influenced by having some of my dear mother's decorations. I'm doing blue and white and silver with little touches of red here and there.
    2. We downsized to a four-foot tree on a beautiful vintage piece in the living room. This year I added two very small lighted trees in the living room near the hallway and near the dining room. No ornaments but the lights on them.
    3. I used to host a Christmas get-together or two in our home but since we began caring for my mom we haven't. This is the second Christmas without her and we haven't yet found our new normal for the holiday season. No gatherings planned in our home this year but we're busy with other celebrations.
    4. Decorations are put away whenever I decide it's time to switch gears and move forward into the New Year. Like you, there have been times it was the day after Christmas but usually a bit longer.

  5. What lovely pictures of your girls, Cindy! I used to have a few trees too but only two this year. I tend to gravitate towards golds, robin egg blues, and pink in the main room. In the family room, it's golds, reds, and greens. I used to do a lot of entertaining but I have slowed down considerably. This year I will have my family in for Christmas dinner and it will be a big undertaking since I have't done that for quite some time. It will be wonderful to have most of the family together this year. Christmas Blessings to you, Cindy!

  9. What a fun precious Nana you are! You look beautiful...because you are, inside and out! I lose track of the questions because I'm thinking I might need to take some of my Momma's, no joke. Colors - I'm like you, whatever I like, but I tend toward lots of red! Trees - I have just the one...oh, there's a tiny one in the bedroom with colored lights that I forget about turning on (refer back to my original statement about the meds...:) Parties - I used to have Sunday school classes over years ago, but I've become more and more introverted and I agree, everybody is so busy. If more things happened during the week instead of on weekends, maybe.....Put Away Decorations - I enjoy the lights so much, especially in the early mornings and at night that I like to keep them up, probably longer than I should. We have snowflake/icicle lights around the front porch this year that I might keep up and turned on into January, maybe throw a few snowmen out there and call it my winter decorations!!! LOL HOPE you have a wonderful CHRISTmas with your family, my Friend!!!

  10. I love seeing your happy family pics, my friend! You're so lucky to see and hear Lauren Daigle. I love her music. I think she sounds like Adele, do you?
I decorate with all the traditional colors. I wasn't going to put my big tree up, but my son put it up for me. My favorite tree is in my bedroom...just a small one on my old sled from when I was a little girl. Have a great week, Cindy. xx

  11. Love those photos...those girls are just to pretty!! I know you enjoy your time with them! For the last few years, I seem to use more gold decor than usual. Before that, I would change it up every year. One of my most favorite trees was a white tree I found at Walmart and I decorated it with all black ornaments. The previous year, I had decorated the tree with all blue ornaments. Different, but pretty. I only do the one tree, that is enough for me. :-) Christmas parties are hit and miss...depends on what I think I have time for! Hope you are enjoying this Christmas season! Love and hugs!

    1. I would love to do more trees but time seems to be the issue. I love decking out my kitchen and living room and usually put just a couple of things in the bathrooms. This year I decided to put a few stars in my laundry room. Takes me 40 forevers though! LOL!

  12. Fabulous shots of those adorable girls! A railroad track always makes for great pics! What a wonderful concert that had to have been and all of you girls look SO cute! To answer your questions...

    1. Red and green with touches of gold... very traditional when it come to Christmas décor!

    2. Most of the time it's just the one but it depends on how much time or energy I have to decorate! When we lived in KY and we had a tri-level home, I put up a smaller tree in the living room and then our family Christmas tree was downstairs in the family room.

    3. I have hosted parties through the years but nowadays it just mostly family get togethers. Our bunch from TN will be here the Friday before Christmas and we will be having our family Christmas on Saturday night. They will be leaving on Sunday so they can be home for Christmas. My hubby will be working Chistmas Eve and Christmas so I will have a very quiet Christmas...that's OK though...shhhh....just don't tell them. I will most likely go to Aaron's place on Christmas evening for supper.

    4. Most years I take it all down the day after New Years...or New Years Day, itself...which is what I will most likely due since I am off. I just may wait until the following weekend though. :)

It won't be long now, my friend! Merry Christmas hugs to YOU!

  13. So funny...I JUST got done showing off my latest Christmas decor in a blog post! ha, ha! Anyways, I don't really have room for parties OR extra trees, otherwise I would say yes to both! I put my decor away on New Year's Day, simply because of the lack of space. Someday I hope to have enough room to go all out! ha, ha. Love your photos! Have a great week!!!

  14. I have one tree now. In years past I had two but now only one. I have so many ornaments it takes more than one day to decorate the tree.
The last three years in a row I have had a large party here but not this year.
I start taking our decorations down New Year's. Sometimes it takes a few days to organize it before putting it away.
This year I will be giving a program for a club in January so I have to work on that inbetween packing things away.
Your photos are gorgeous. Good photographer and beautiful subjects. Great poses.
Glad your family enjoyed the concert together and treats afterward.

  15. I loved all the pictures of your girls! You’re a blessed grandma, for sure!! Since moving to our new house, I’ve used a color theme to decorate but everything is anchored in white, silver and gold. The last two years my pop of color was red with black and white checked ribbon. This year, I’m using lime green as my pop. I’ve used it sparingly but am really liking it! My bedroom is grey and light pink and I’ve kept those colors while decorating there...just a few bauble and bottlebrush trees.
I decorate 2 trees, the one in the great room and one in J’s man cave. His is woodsy. The one upstairs is like I described earlier.
I entertained the retired teachers’ craft group this year. I made chicken casserole, had drinks and the tableware. Everyone brought something. We had it after our craft meeting and it snowed that day!
I’m like you, I enjoy the decorations and take my time transitioning to ‘winter’ decor. This year may be different as I have little Jack during the day. May have to get it put away early or I may still have my trees up till spring!! Thanks for the fun questions! Hope you’re feeling good! Zenda

  17. I love your pictures of your sweet grand-girls, and that cotton field ain't rotten! It looks pretty good. (Remember the song "when those cotton fields get rotten you can't pick very much cotton, in those old cotton fields back home"). Christmas trees..I have 4 this year, but two are very little and I don't re-decorate them...I just pack them away as is, except the one I sometimes put miniature tea cups and teapots on it, but not this year. I have the grapevine tree on our front porch, and then of course our big artificial tree in the living room. I love the lights of the trees in the kitchen and dining room and living room... We used to host Christmas parties at our house every year when we were pastoring churches. We had such fun. Everyone brought food and we'd have white elephant gift exchange and played silly games. So much fun. Now we just have our family gatherings. Maybe when we get moved we will have parties again at our new home next year. Love that you and your girls had a girls night out to a great concert. That sounds like it was such fun. Making wonderful memories with your family..that is so special. You are blessed!!

  18. Hi Cindy, We use to do more than one tree but now only one this year. In fact the kids got it down from the attic and decorated it and I sat in the chair and watched as am in a low energy time from CFS. (cfs definition)
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), is a medical condition characterized by long-term fatigue and other persistent symptoms that limit a person's ability to carry out ordinary daily activities.)
Loved seeing all the pictures of you and the girls. I use to like to take the tree down the day after Christmas but thinking of leaving it up through New Years as it is so cheery in gloomy weather. Loved seeing the pictures of you and the girls. Merry Christmas Nancy

    1. CFS can really put a damper on this Nancy but thank the Lord you have family that could help you. I really dislike taking my tree down to be honest as I love the lights. Just something to me that is comforting to sit in my recliner in the mornings with all the lights off except for those on my tree. Happy day to you dear lady.

I decorate them with all my gingerbread/kitchen theme ornaments. I have several trees in the family room. One tree is Disney, another Peanuts. I have a small palm tree that I put up this year with Hawaii ornaments. All the bedrooms have trees and small trees in the bathroom. We started decorating before Thanksgiving. I hope to add pictures to my blog in the next few days. Enjoy your family!

  22. I decorate only one tree, and its rather traditional, red, gold, green... I use to have a Santa collection, but the shelf they were on fell and most of them broke. I would love to host a big Christmas party, but after my annual Witches Tea it's just to much. I guess I'll take everything down after New Year's. Maybe cull have a few neighbours over for a little post holiday cheer before it all gets put away.

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
