{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu

{Perm Rods, 4-Wheeler and Grands }

Well no, I didn't give myself a perm but I sure remember many a day of getting a perm. Oh my granny was in her prime giving us girls those home perms! I keep several of my grandgirls on Monday nights and Tuesdays during the summer months so recently my 11 year old grandgirl Mallory spotted a zip lock bag with these perm rods under my bathroom sink and naturally inquired, "WHAT IS THIS NANA?".

The fun began! No we didn't use a perm solution but boy did we have fun! Needless to say she wasn't THRILLED at all with the perm look. She recently got braces and when I took those perm rods out of her hair I couldn't help but laugh and think, "Child, you look just like you stepped out of the 80's". Those perm rods actually belonged to my granny and they surely brought back many memories.

I kept this sweet girl one day last week too and oh is she BUSY.  We done everything you could imagine.

We had a "baby tea party" in the play room and she thought she was such a big girl. Of course a sippy cup took the place of a tea cup but she was good to go, especially with her choice of dessert being gold fish.

She wanted to play at the vanity and I snapped this picture of her smiling at herself. Just too cute.

We danced, ate pop sickles, watched Micky Mouse (several times), swung outside on the porch swing and sang. I read her several books and we played outside. She loves being outside. We watered my tomatoes (and her) and Nana even got inside her little princess tent with her. YEP, thought I was going to have call someone to come get me out of the that little tent but I managed. AND I manged to get supper cooked and a cake baked! Sleep came easier that night. LOL! But I surely treasure those sweet moments.

School is beginning next week for my grandbabies and I got all my grands a few school supplies. Well, the baby got diapers, wipes, and things that I knew would benefit her at 14 months old. I did get her a toy too. LOL! Of course the three year old grandgirl isn't in school but her mama started doing school with her at the age of two so yes, she needed a few school supplies too. I spruced up their packages a bit to make it more fun.

We finally broke down and bought a new 4-wheeler. It was time. Ours was 20 years old. We bought a larger one which was needed for us. I wish I had a dollar for every ride that old 4-wheeler has made riding the grands around and was used for hunting.  It has saved us a lot of work in the woods by doing the hauling for us. If this one last 20 years we surely can't fuss.

My man was happy camper needless to say.

And I took a little time out for ME. A little color and a fresh hair cut sure made this gal happy! I tried this summer y'all letting my hair grow out a little but my hair is thick and course and to be honest, "It was REALLY getting on my last nerve". I am like a friend of mine said, "When my hair is out of whack...I am out of whack". Feeling like my old self again now.

I will close with the above statement today. May it be a sweet reminder for us.

I hope that you all have a great and blessed week and as always, thanks for letting me share my family with you.

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  1. You are toooooo cute Cindy with that cute hair cut. I, too, have thick, course hair. And, how well I remember those perm rods. Have mercy, my Mom thought I had to have a perm twice a year and I sure didn't need one. Hubby and I went 4 wheeler riding yesterday, not something I do very often but we had a good time. Have a great week!

  3. You indeed had a fun week.

    "Sleep came easier that night" ha-ha! Oh yeah, after a day with a busy granddaughter!!
    "When my hair is out of whack...I am out of whack". I think somewhere in Scripture it says a woman's hair is her glory (or along those lines), so yes, we girls feel so much better about ourselves when our hair looks good.

    And then the reminder to live acceptable to Christ and not our peers or others. Last week our pastor said, "Know who you are and then be who you are." I've been meditating on that for days. Your words compliment that thought.

    Have a good week!

  4. You are so darn cute, Cindy!!! I am going today to get my hair whacked too, LOL. I can't it take anymore, I have been letting it grow out and lets just face it, some 52 year old's ought not have long hair (mine is baby thin)--so back to a layered Bob. smiles

    I just love your photos and your granddaughter looked just fine, jmo of course, smiles.

    1. Send me a picture of her hair cut. Girl, the older I get the less I want to have to spend too much time on the hair! But for me, longer hair just weighs me down it seems and makes my face look draggy is the only way I can describe it. Of course I need all the help with the face that I can get too! Ha! I am for easy these days!

  5. You surely should win the "fun Grandma" award! And I certainly do remember those awful perm rods and the stinky stuff to go with them...lol! I just LOVE your new DO! Oh I wish my hair was thick like yours...it actually used to be but it started getting thinner after I had kids which was OK with me since it was too thick. Since I have been sick, my hair has gotten so thin and it seems I lose more in the shower every time I was it. Oh well...it is what it is...I may have to go out and find me cute wig one day...LOL!

    1. The smell...oh yes, that awful smell. I shed hair and now I see new hair growth popping up in sprigs. CRAZY! I try really not to complain because I have many friends that have lost their hair to cancer. Oh I have several wigs that I have used for Halloween. Matter of fact I need to drag them out for the grandgirls to play with.

  6. Those perm rods sure brought back memories, Cindy!! Oh my, the things we did back in the day. My late beloved mom still loved getting a perm. That little baby and her baby tea party was too cute!! They sure wear us out though, don’t they? My late beloved hubby bought a 4-wheeler which we have at our friends’ place in Arkansas. They sure are fun. You look adorable with your new haircut! Thank you for ending with the beautiful statement. Have a great week! Blessings and hugs are sent to you......

We have used it for many years hunting and what a blessing it was to have. We have rode those grandbabies around so much too. It was time for a new one. If this one last 20 years we are set!

    Love the new doo!!!! I am going today for color and cut too. Love seeing your sweet granddaughters. The little one reminds me so much of my little grand girl Charlotte. When I babysit her I need a nap afterwards. They are so busy!!! Oh my gosh the perm rods bring back memories for me too. To fun you still have those!!! Your hubby looks happy on his new wheels too. Have a great start to the new week ahead.

  16. Fun playing with kids....I was able to enjoy Caleb (oldest grand-18) but with the other two little ones, 8 and 10 I have not been able to do that. Caleb and I were always together but that was BF - before Fibromyalgia. Wow....what flavor is that cake. It looks amazing. That sprinkle of white sugar makes it look yummy. My older brother has a thingy that you ride around on.....a Gator I think it is called. I have had some MAJOR fun playing on that when they would go out of town and I would animal/house sit. I can see if you have a lot of space where a 4wheeler would be very handy and hubs looks pleased! I do the grow hair/cut hair thingy all the time. But I realized after letting it grow out for 2 years after I had lost so much weight that it made me look a TAD OLDER then I wanted to look. I might wear it just a little longer then really short in the winter but I have not decided yet. Yours looks great.....color? Not done that in 11 yrs. It was getting too hard to cover all this grey! I really love the way yours is colored. The two tone. I had thought about putting some dark in mine with a streak here and there but then I have to fool with it when it grows! haha....Its just easier on me to not have to mess with it. You look awesome!!

She will treasure these memories. And that little sweet baby girl princess...tea party and gold fish and pink princess vanity...You are so blessed to have these precious moments together!! And what a fun way to give school supplies! Makes it more fun to go back to school! I know I remember loving to get new school supplies...new pencils, notebook, paper, all that cool stuff! Wow...that was a LONG time ago... And your haircut and color looks super duper! I know what you mean about hair being out of whack...mine has been out of whack all summer, and I am just giving up. Maybe when we get moved into our new house the water will be different again and it will go back to being normal...and then I can figure out if I want to let it grow or cut it off or get a perm! I'm just tired of messing with it! Now, that 4-wheeler looks like a lot of fun. We wanted one when we lived in the forest so we could go down those trails, but just never got around to it. I am happy you and your family enjoy that together. What fun memories you all make. You are such a blessing to me. Hope we get to meet one of these days!!!!

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a yard

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th
