{It's Been A Hot Minute Y'all}

  Well, it's not HOT in my neck of the woods in temperature (not today anyway) but it's sure been a HOT minute since I last posted. For that I am so sorry but it seems my life has been consumed with doctor appointments, tests, and MORE tests, biopsies, surgery and so much more. One day at a time sweet Jesus is all that any of us can ask for. Wanted to pop in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share a little about what I've been up too.  Marty and I enjoyed a weekend at the beach before I had breast cancer surgery and took advantage of the time I had in between so many doctor appointments and testing. It was sure a good little getaway.  We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary in September. WOW! Just babies! LOL! We were high school sweethearts. Started dating at age 16. Married at age 18 and started a family at age 20.  We celebrated Marty's birthday in October. He says that he's feeling his age these days. LOL! He still works 4 days a week and has a long commu...

{Happy Sunday Everyone}

 Well, today is the last day of July and I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that that the past seven months has seemed to fly by. WHEW....I may be getting slower by time sure isn't!

Isn't this array of succulents just pretty? I've had this for a long time now. I helped to host a baby shower and was gifted this as a thank you. Each hostess was given just one small plant in a container. I honestly never expected it to live. It has more than thrived. I have propagated these succulents many times with the babies that would fall off and as you can see they are thriving in their now larger container. I have a few more in a smaller container that is growing.

Decided to make my famous carrot cake for Sunday dinner. Well, it's famous with my family. This is usually my go too cake or a fresh Apple pound cake when making something sweet for raffles, fund raisers or special occasions. Today wasn't a special occasion except to simply celebrate family at the Conner house.  Needless to say a fresh carrot cake is hard to beat. Who doesn't like cream cheese icing though, right? What was on  the menu today at the Conner house you might wonder? Yellow rice and chicken cooked by my man, peas and butterbeans with a big old fat hamhock, fresh corn made with cream cheese, butter, milk, salt and pepper. Biscuits and of course Carrot cake. Let's not forget good old southern sweet tea! Y'all hungry yet?

Yesterday late afternoon Marty and I decided to spontaneously get in the truck and just ride some old back roads in our parts. We try to sit outside by the pond most afternoons on the weekend but y'all, it was just too hot for my likings. When he asked me if I'd like to just ride and talk well see here....I beat him to the truck! LOL! I am a planner so I was actually surprised at myself? WHAT? No makeup, no hair done, no matching outfit! However, I did say, "let me grab my lipstick". Of course he laughed and says, "Yeah, this is a hot date" so you might need to paint those lips. We laughed, we talked, we reminisced  about the many years we spent hunting in these woods for deer, packing breakfast and lunch meals for the girls, riding on the back of a dog box, camp fires and cookouts with friends and family. We rode through all the old backroads and before I knew it we had spent almost two hours reminiscing. AND...I didn't see a soul to show them my newest color of lipstick I was sporting! The memories of old sure can brighten a day.

Sharing a picture of some sweet ladies from one of the yoga classes I attend. I ask that you lift up the lady on the far right. Her name is Cindy too. She has recovered from Covid but has some heart issues and could sure use a little lifting up.

I've been recently reading though the promises that the Lord gave us and this meme popped up. I don't know about you but sometimes I just need to be reminded that God always keeps His promises to His children. Maybe one of those promises listed might be just what you needed to be reminded of today.

I hope that you all have a great week. Do something fun, spontaneous or maybe do nothing! Sometimes, we just simply need to get in our vehicle and RIDE.

Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  2. Yes! Very. Hungry that is. I do love menus that sound so good. I don't know...pool or dusty old road. Hmmm...the truck must have great AC. ☺️ Glad that you had a fun time reminiscing. Said a little prayer for Cindy. She looks like a sweetheart. Actually, she looks a lot like my neighbor Patti. They smile with the same gentle spirit. Have a great week and a wonderful August.

  4. Yes, this year is really flying by! The holidays will be here before we know it so better start looking for all those recipes. As I age, it almost need to plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas in August! Lol! What a fun way to spend a hot Sunday afternoon! During the pandemic, we would take a ride on Sundays. Each week we would take a different set of county roads from our house. We should do it again, maybe in the fall when the leaves are turning. Wishing you a lovely week!

    1. The property we rode on was not our property, Just our younger days of hunting close to home. Government owned now.

  15. Aw, that sounds like such a sweet time with your man reminiscing down memory lane. It brought tears to my eyes. Life sure does fly by awful fast, doesn't it? I remember my sweet Mom telling me that she couldn't even remember so much of her life. I can't either. I wish time would slow down.

Hiding the Ugly Hot Water Heater

 I shared that I wanted to hide my ugly hot water heater in my laundry room with you a few weeks ago. It just stuck out like a sore thumb. But after all it is a hot water heater right? So my man took a piece of wood (not real wood) but it worked and built a frame for me. So now to see if it would fit and it did. I painted it white and did not like the texture it had even after two coats of white. (rule of thumb...you get what you pay for and the wood was cheap) But I wasn't going to let it whip me!  Found some contact paper at Walmart in the gray and white. Covered the front with the contact paper and loved the look. The top was covered with a piece of painted wood as well and worked perfect to place this on top... And this.... Added a clothes basket in the corner and here was the top.... Yep, no longer an eye sore to me! Went perfect with my gray walls and gray and white floor. Remember the wood tray I bought at a...

{SON-Flowers}

Don't you just love sunflowers? When I think about sunflowers I think of two things. My motherinlove who loved sunflowers and Fall. I came across a devotional written by Julia Bettencourt on sunflowers and thought it so appropriate for today as I wanted to share my sunflowers with you. Here's a few lessons we can learn from the sunflower.    Sunflowers Track The Sun.   Most plants are attracted to light but the flowering head of the sunflower actually tracks the sun following it's path and moving toward where it is in the sky all during the day. I read somewhere that sunflowers track the sun when they are in bud stage. Isn't that how it usually goes for us as Christians? When we first come to know the Lord, we get excited about knowing all about Him and living for Him, but after awhile we sometimes grow a little preoccupied with other things and get our eyes off of the Lord.   Wouldn't it be great if as a Christian we'd track th...
